Ok so this is just a gimmick to sell more equipment and your buying into it. Why waste your money on it? Is it different than the equipment you already have? No. Does it squeegee different? Does it scrub better? No. It just has a color scheme that ties in with the gimmick to support the marketing campaign. And you’ve bought it hook line and sinker. Don’t get me wrong though, when I look at it I want it too. I don’t even use Unger products and I want it.
This leads me to my point. this is marketing genius! We don’t even need it and it probably goes against all wisdom for us to purchase it but we still want it.
So how can we sell a "50"year anniversary window cleaning service(so to speak) to our customers who don’t need it but just have to have it when they see our ad campaign? They might even use a competitor and just had their windows done but when they see your ad they just have to use your service!
John, although I do agree to some degree the point was more about Unger’s ability to generate more sales from there existing customer base whether they needed them or not. If you are a dye hard Unger user and you just bought the same tools right before they came out with this anniversary set you would want to buy it anyways.
As window cleaners we tend to think of our service in terms of whether or not a customer needs the service done or not. Would you call a customer back and try to sell them window cleaning who you just did last month? Probably not, because your thinking they don’t need it I just did it. But think abut it another way. I have a customer that calls me all the time just because she likes the way she feels on the weekend when she can look out her spotless windows. There not even dirty! She just loves the idea that everything is in place. For her it’s not a need it’s a want. if we sold wants instead of just needs we might be able to create more sales out of some existing customers.
So what are some 50th year concepts? What are some things that even our customers don’t know they want? Where you thinking to yourself, “I wish Unger would come out with a 50 year anniversary tool set so I can buy it, I think I will call them and see if they will make that”? No they thought of it and sold it to us and we are buying it! We did not even know we wanted it until they told us we did!
Do we know our customers that well? Do we really know what makes them purchase window cleaning? Heck I doubt they even know what makes them purchase it half the time!
I don’t think these tools will be offered in a wide range of sizes. Most likely a handle and t-bar in a grey color and a bucket on a belt with some different markings.
Sure, this isn’t going to excite everyone or even a lot of people but there are some who find this interesting for sure. Some people are really into the history of window cleaning and one of the oldest manufacturers of professional tools. I think the limited run will do well for Unger and I personally think its pretty cool they are doing something for this huge milestone.
I think they look awesome and the product works. I need a t bar and boab for my resi belt come spring anyway since I’ve had the same old equipment for 6 years or so now. So why not add a cool lookin squeegee with green rubber too
