Up against a wall

I’d like to place my initial order today and I need a it of direction. I’m favoring a couple of brands based on what I’ve been reading here and elsewhere. For squeegees, Steccone and Ettore. Is there interchangeability between the components (handles, channels and rubber) and will they use the same extension poles?

You will get the best fit if you stick with one brand meaning Unger handle - Unger pole, Ettore handle - Ettore pole. Tools will work on a competitor’s pole but staying within brands will get you the best fit and allow locking cones to be utilized.

Honestly, its going to take you trying a few different brands to find all the tools that work and feel best for you. Not many people out there are all in with one brand, most mix and match.

Give me a call if you have some specific compatibility questions.

So, Alex… Thanks for the response, but I’m curious as to why you didn’t mention my reference to Steccone. I have a specific reason for my interest in their squeegees. They seem to be very lightweight, and since Kelly’s 5’ and change and a buck five with sand in her pockets, I’m thinking that should be a consideration for her. If I’m understanding the posts I’ve read, folks using those squeegees are pretty happy with them for that reason as well as others.

And how about interchangeability of rubber/channels/handles?

Sorry, overlooked Steccone. Steccone featherweight channels are a good option but Ettore also makes an aluminum channel and handle that are identical in weight to the Steccone.

Most channels and handles are interchangeable, any Ettore stainless, brass or aluminum will fit in any Ettore channel but you will need to use end clips. FYI, all Ettore channels come with [URL=“http://shopwindowcleaner.com/brass-clips-12-pack.html”]end clips standard.

Unger makes two different channels, “S”, which is a stainless steel channel and a brass channel. The “S” channels are clip-less, meaning, there are no end clips that hold the rubber in place and they are designed to fit best with the Ergotec, [URL=“http://shopwindowcleaner.com/unger-ergotec-xl-handle.html”]Ergotec XL and [URL=“http://shopwindowcleaner.com/unger-0-degree-ergotec-swivelloc-handle.html”]SwivelLoc handles. The brass channels will fit in Unger Pro handles and any Ettore non-Super Channel handle.

Pretty confusing right?

Don’t over think it. Use Ettore for getting started out and try the other ones as you learn. Ettore is a good option that covers the bases well and is a huge outfit. Get some time In and hit a convention next year to really open up your experience with other window cleaners and the tools available. It’s better to keep it simple and build options and handy dandy wagtails and such down the road. You’ll find your tastes with time and experience. Ettore is a good place to start.

I’m not on Ettore’s sales team but just saying…

I’d probably suggest Unger to train on, you’ll always pick up more tools. I think Mark Strange made up a starter pack in the store.

I have an unger pole for sale, if your interested PM me

Hey Bill, I haven’t seen an order come across for you. Do you need some help getting the order together?

Let me know. Thanks

Unger all the way…

Mix and match always seemed to be the best route. But it is a bit of trial and error.
