Used Rubber?

I am looking at current prices for rubber and every year I am shocked by the increase. Do any of the companies buy back used rubber to recycle it? It just seems like it could be melted back down and reused and not so much of a waste. I may just be cheap but I remember when you could get a gross of 36" inch ettore rubber for $280.00. Now it’s at least $560.00+ not counting shipping. Do any of you guys use your old rubber for anything other than filling up trash cans? just looking for a creative use for the waste.

I enquirered with the 2 major rubber companies… and my calls were not returned…

Hey,
I’m just kidding but I do start with a 36 inch rubber and trim it down to the next size I need when they are worn on the outer edges. One rubber serves many tasks that way and it holds down costs.

I also cut down my rubbers to smaller sizes. It is kind of odd though that recycling programs take so many different materials but I’ve never seen one that takes rubber. Weird!
As far as creative I have one idea - driveway filler. If you have any concrete projects going on at your place you could cut the rubber into small (2"-3") pieces and put it in the concrete mix before you pour it. The rubber would be a great bonding agent. They use ground up tires in some of the road projects around here and it seems to be working so far.

I keep all my used rubber…why? I don’t know…I feel like some day soon I could use it.
It’s all the rubber I’ve used since day 1! It’s alot of rubber.

Some times after im done with my 18 or 20 i will cut it down and use it for my 10 inch squeege. recycling these rubbers would be huge cost saver to window cleaners.

Trampoline?
Make the largest squeegee rubber in the world! Guinness Booka - would be great for your SEO?

I left some under the bed in my in-laws guest room.

Lol, I was wondering how long it would take…

I too had the idea of recycling squeegee blades a while back ago. I’ve got quite a bit saved up. The stuff is too expensive just to throw away… I figure it’s gonna be worth something some day… kinda like my retirement plan.

KINDA LIKE YOUR RETIREMENT PLAN ? Well i am sure you will do just fine if you don’t have any interest in AIG ! The economy is in the crapper and you have AIG and that guy MADOFF that bilked out $160 some odd millions of dollars out of investors. The onlything i see as a good retirement plan is keeping your own money in your own safe along with a 50 cal barret rifle beside it… That way incase any sticky fingers come close all they will see is a big grin on your face from ear to ear and asking them if there is anything you can help them with ! sorry about responding but the retirement thing got me on a little tangent … LOL

Lol, I may have worded that wrong.

I meant the used squeegee blades are my retirement plan. Not that my retirement plan may be worth something some day. lol.

Are you a pilot, Low Altitude? I like your avatar.

You have probably discovered the best idea in regards to savings and retirement. Your tengent is worthy of the soap box!

What do you consider close? With the range on that rifle you are looking at 1300 yards easy with a skilled hand. Can’t even imagine what that would do close range, lol. I will stick with my 12. ga and 45ACP. Not that I would not love to have a Barret.

Well if it was at close range i guess you could make a new mailbox with the opening that would make but you would have to figure out what kind of lid or door to put on it ! LOL
At long range … Hmmmmm I guess that is when you say you are sighting in your new scope or call it hide and seek. If they make it past the 1300 yards it is considered another good day. Kinda like the analogy of a pilot … any landing is a good landing if you can walk away !!!
I also do like my springfield xd 45. I treat it like my AMEX card … Never leave home with out it.

I am the same way with my Kimber custom 45. Camping trips with the trailer I bring along the AR-15 just for giggles, and Hunting it’s a toss up between the 7mm and the AR-10 .308 Got to have a little fun right?
