Using 30" Unger Ninja in Upper slot on commercial

I know many of you may already have this knowledge, cool. However a few days ago someone PM me about posting a video using my Unger Ninja 30" with the rubber in the “upper” slot. I Prefer my 30" this way, though it takes some getting used to it makes things easier.

Please don’t critique my speed too much guys  this is for information purposes. LOL

Have fun and be careful in this heat everyone

Hey I appreciate any feed back guys and gals

Thanks,

You didnt really go into detail about the rubber being in the second slot. Do you find that you have to put less pressure on the squeegee? What advantages do you notice with the rubber in that position? Thanks. J

Hey thanks for a little feed back… first video.

Well in the second video you can see there is a display about 24" high and maybe 48" or so long. With the second slot you have twice the rubber to work with so in other words you can tweek the handle to get a good clean squeegee accross the glass.

I also find with 2 story commercial you can get the ledge while finishing your pull stroke down.

I probably should have thought a little bit more of how What when why and where instead of one take winging it videos.
: )

Thanks

I apologize I didnt realize there were two videos. I understand now. I think I just might add a 30" to my bag of tricks.

I probably should have made that more obvious…sorry.

There we go hopefully I fixed it.

Cool… you’ll have to let me know what ya think when you get one. I have used one for about 8 yrs. It really comes in handy on commercial and store fronts. Cuts down time and fanning so much I can’t live with out it. Especially for my employees! Time is $

Jeremiah…

Those were very helpful videos! I can see the advantages in my amateur-ish mind. You’re right…when I get to the lower half on a high window using a pole, I have to fan it instead because the angle is all wrong. I think what I am understanding is that because the rubber is out at a different angle, that won’t be a problem anymore?

Also, one question I’ve had an issue with, but saw you do…

When the length of my rubber is parallel up against a pane, and I am pulling across the window, I am left with about 1/2" of water where the rubber met the frame. The rubber is pulling the water away from the frame and into the glass.

How do you prevent this? I stopped doing it by making sure the length of my rubber never meets the frame, only the edge…but for some situations, I should know how to do it properly either way.

Thanks again!

How would that have worked with the first slot? What would be the difference?
It looks like it would work either way. Thanks

Hey Merv,

The point was that many don’t really learn to use the second slot. So the video was just to present that. Yes the first video situation it would work either way, the second shows another option for more difficult windows. The second video You cannot at the angle get a clean swipe in the first slot. I have had that job like 8 yrs., it wasn’t till I started using the second slot that those types of situations got easier, much easier.

Thanks,

Jeremiah

Renee,

Thanks, glad I could help some.

Were you referring to the bottom of the glass leaving a 1/2" of water? If so, then yes try to not get the rubber too close to the frame.

Thanks,
Jeremiah

I used the second notch with another brand squeegee.
It required less pressure or the rubber would fold back on itself and be a problem.
The rubber sticks out above the channel more.
I will have to try it with the Ninja.

My experience with the ninja is that any glass second story or higher comes out better with the rubber in the upper slot. Less pressure required and check you rubber angle to the glass so you don’t end up with the flat part of the rubber dragging along the glass. Takes a small bit of practice.

I did the same with another squeegee brand we will let remain anonymous…

I finally gave it another shot and fell in love with it, very versatile indeed. I think the other brand had too many options in slots, the Ninja just two and you get just what you need.
Let me know what you find Merv?

Great info from all of you. Nice to read that the Ninja is being used as we designed it. Appreciate the comments.

The two extra slots on the other brand are not really extra options for standard usage – they are utilized progressively when one uses their rubber trimming device (>$300.)

I wonder if the hardness of the rubber makes a difference when
the squeegee is used in the second slot.

If the rubber is too soft will it tend to fold over under pressure if left extended above the channel?
Are some brands of rubber better for use on the second slot?..just wondering.

Good questions Merv. The only hard rubber I have is the Wagtail red rubber. I’ll have to give this a try sometime. I think other brands of hard rubber like Unger or Pulex may not be as stiff as the red Wagtail type, not sure.

You are right about the slots. But I am not sure every one that picked up a s**** knows that info.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Did you ever purchase one? I considered it many times since that was my grand of choice for 9 years. But now it’s the ninja, so I probably won’t get one now. But doing the math it would’ve paid off eventually trimming the rubber down.

I never purchased one, Jeremiah, nor have I ever use that brand squeegee (I won one years ago.)
