Does anyone have any experience using a generator with their makita? I’m trying to determine which generator brand/size would be most efficient in terms of gasoline usage on an hourly basis. Let me know what you would recommend… Thanks
I use a Honda Quiet Series 2000W generator for those occasions there is no avaiable AC for my RHG RO/DI Electric cart. I chose it for its low decibel level and the 1HP electric motor on the cart. Startup of a 1HP motor requires at least 840W. The Makita requires less, obviously. I will use my Quiet Series withy GlassRenu system when rquired.
Hi – We use a generator whenever power is not available. This happens for outdoor signs, vacant buildings etc. We rent the generator and really have not had any issues with it. You can’t use the small ones – just not enough power but a moderate size is fine. We pay about $25 per day for the use of a generator so it is easily added into the bill.
Look around for sales. When my first generator broke I got lucky. Hit up the home depot and got a coleman powermate 5000w for $375.00 on sale. Dame thing can power most of my house if I have a power outage. It’s a little big but I like having the power just in case. Filled up with gas it will go a full 8 hour day before it needs filling up.
We also have a 5000 and a 6000 watt generators we mount on our trailers when needed. When pressure cleaning, we mount halogen lights on tripods and light the areas up. I have used them to run floor machines and carpet machines when there is no power.
When we moved into our current house, we added a switch so we can run the necessaries of the house when there is a power outage
Hi guys. Just curious. Anybody out there have a generator that they use strictly for scratch removal??? Not for power washing, etc. The amperage rating for the glass renu system is much lower than a power washer. I’ve seen much smaller units weighing only like 50 pounds but supplying enough amperage to run 2 makitas for scratch removal. They are portable and can be removed easily from the vehicle and run while sitting on the sidewalk and not in my truck emitting exhaust fumes. Anyone know of a reliable one??? Thanks Guys…
my buddy has one of these, and uses it to power 2 sets of tire warmers for our race bikes. they draw 1000w each.

We use a generator around about 60% of the time. We have a 3KVA model which has a 5.5hp honda fuel motor. We can run the makita and 2 x 500 watt spotlights when we do early mornings or late afternoons. We find that doing scratch removal under artificial light takes some getting use to as it casts shadows on the surface.
Get the right powered generator and you will have no problems. If its under powered you will have to grind/polish on a higher number.
Thanks for the replies. The only thing with the Hondas are theyare pricey. Anyone use one of those Honeywell or Generec generators that are around half the price??? About $500.
My Honda is quiet…and it’s a Honda.
Im with Larry, I have been using my Honda Eu2000 for almost 3 yrs doing scratch removal. I can be on main street in front of a restaurant and its quiet enough to do in mid day. Worth the $900.00.
