Vacuuming Sills or Tracks

For those of you that do it

Are you using smaller shop vacs or handheld rechargeable vacs?

Empty houses that have been sold or they’re putting on the market I use a small 2.5 gallon 4hp shop vac.

But don’t know about carrying that around inside someone’s everyday type of home.
So I use a brush and screwdriver.

Would you say it’s easier/faster than other methods?

I have Dirt Devil Scorpion Turbo electric. It is about 8 years old and running like the day it was new. Still using the same filter too! I just vacuum the filter at the end of the day with my house vac and good to go. Not sure if I can find another filter if that one finally goes South.

I found this little shop vac on craigslist for 15 bucks.

I magivered (sp?) A fifty foot extension cord straight to the switch so no one borrows just the cord when the vacuum is idle. Works pretty good I guess once I figured out to vacuum the track then wash the window. So much easier dry.

I’ve always used a shop vac… The mini version. I think they’re $20 or $30. Powerful, replaceable, and portable.

I’m still using the black and decker, but the filter is totally hosed now. I could buy a new one, but the issue is with all the fine sand we have here a new filter wouldn’t last long.

So what I do is if I only have a few windows to do is drape a wet microfiber cloth over the outlet to prevent it from spewing dust everywhere. If I’ve got a lot of windows to do, I put the vacuum at the bottom of my tool bucket (organizer by Home Depot) and then drape the microfiber over the vacuum outlet. With the bucket + microfiber, I don’t have to worry.

Brush all the dust into a little pile, quick on quick off and done. Like this the battery will give me a couple of med-large houses.

I like the ergonomics of my backpack vacuum from Pro-Team. It has really good suction too.

I use a Dewalt handheld wet/dry shop vac. Added bonus: battery powered, great for when I do residentials without electricity on, or to just save myself working around plugs and cords.
