Wanted to introduce myself

Hello Everyone. I figured that as much time as I have spent the last few weeks reading these forums it was probably time to introduce myself. I am located in Southeast Georgia (Savannah area) and am looking at starting a window cleaning business in the near future. The craziest part of this idea is that i really don’t have much experience cleaning windows.

I am currently working full time (military) but getting ready to retire from this in approximately 10 months (I will only be 43 yrs old and have no intention of not working after retirement). I have been looking into different options for small businesses I can start up and run solo or with minimal employees. Window cleaning seems to be the one that appeals to me the most. In the last few months I have been studying these boards and every video I can find on the subject. I have also cleaned my own windows several times as well as some family members houses.

I do have some experience in sales (3 years of recruiting) but my business experience is limited to the endless paperwork used in the Army and a few years of restaurant management as a 19/20 year old. Most of the people i mention my plans to look at me like I am crazy but I know that I can do this if I set my mind to it. I do NOT want to move into another career working for the government or some other business or organization.

I am planning on getting my business license / insurance and starting part time some time in late January. I won’t be able to really devote full time effort into it until September of next year. I have been trying to think of everything that I need to accomplish between now and then in order to make this start up easier. I have even thought about contacting window cleaners in other cities to see about working in some type of internship / training arrangement. Has anyone here done anything similar when they were starting out? I don’t really think anyone in the same area would be willing to train their competition so haven’t bothered contacting them.

Any advice that you have would be greatly appreciated. I will be lurking and asking as many questions as I can get people to answer in the next few weeks / months.

Thanks,
Sol

Welcome. AMC is just getting started and has a good thread here.

Welcome.
Yes, I would imagine getting your feet wet would go over better out of market.
You’ll need to have the qualities of persistence, humility, and consistency.
Best to you!

Welcome! Keeping up with the various discussions here will be a great advantage to you before you actually get started. You’ll get answers to questions that you didn’t even know you had yet.

Keep cleaning your windows to practice form first than speed. If you have the extra money buy a pole, a sorbo channel with ninja handle, ettore channel and handle, and a Liquidator channel and handle. Try them all out and see which you like best and get a full set of the brand you like best. Practice your pole work as much possible it comes in handy

tough market. you’ll be competing against michael mole and michael vidan. if i were in your spot i would study what they are doing (two different ends of the service spectrum) and try to find a niche in the market that they aren’t filling.

Thank you everyone for the advice … Now to find that tank
