Werner 17 Combo Ladder- Standoff

So I recently purchased the Werner 17 Combo Ladder, I was wondering if anyone is using this ladder currently and if so are you using a ladder standoff? What brand and type?

This seems like a dumb question but I am doing my best to put safety first and buy the nicer equipment.

Thanks,
Evan

I don’t use stand off’s with the lg type ladders. I do like having one on an extension ladder.

The only one I ever found to work was a bolt on type. You can buy them at lowes Home Depot. They are actually cheeper than quick connect one. Just more annoying to put on and off.

You know I should probably sell my 17 Werner because I haven’t used it for like 2 years. Sectionals and wfp are to awesome. I guess I have had that thing so long it is part of the family I don’t know.

Thanks I think I am going to pick one up from Lowes tomorrow.

Picked up the AC96 this morning and have conducted a couple of test runs on my own house. So far I love the feel and position it puts me in for second story work. Downside as mentioned before is that it’s a bolt on and not that easily removed. (Then again it is only 4 wing nuts).

Thanks again for the help!

I don’t use a combo ladder. I have never owned one…old dog new tricks? I use section and extension ladders with stand-offs and leveloks. If I am going up off the ground, safety trumps money every day

Try it, you might like it.

All the cool kids have one.

I have to agree with Jared, I haven’t once felt unsafe on my Werner 17. I certainly agree safety first but that ladder is pretty sturdy considering I’m about 225… Before lunch

To address the OP’s question, I use the Werner AC78 Quickclick stabilizer. They are so easy to use - I can install it or remove it in about 10 secs.
If you are going to be using it several times a day, screwing and unscrewing wing nuts can become a pain. Of course, some guys just leave the stabilizer permanently attacherd to their ladders. The AC78 fits all my extension ladders, as well as my multi-purpose ladders. It makes a huge difference in the stability and safety you have at height. I have also adapted it, so that I can use it with the arms reversed in a narrow stance, that gets me further away from the building - useful when you are accessing a roof and you want to be able to clear the guttering.

As far as multi-piurpose ladders go, I have a Werner MT26, as well as a 17ft Cosco and a 11ft Cosco. I use them literally every day. The MT26 is a life saver when you are working over stairs, or if you are doing the interior of high atriums, or working on seriously sloping ground. I know the indoor pure water guys are probably going to chime in and say that if you use interior pure water then you don’t need a MP ladder, but IMHO it is an extremely useful piece of equipment to have. In some cases, it is the only way to access certain windows.
