WFP and Window Frame "Bleed"

If this topic has been covered already, then I apologize in advance. I’ve been reading forums on WFP work and it seems pretty awesome in theory. What do you guys that use it do about the vinyl window frames that bleed the nasty white paint every time they get wet?

Thanks in advance.

Scrub them till they stop. Start at the top. Scrub, scrub, scrub. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Then do the rest of the window. When you rinse the side edges, angle your jets so they are pushing water outward, away from the glass. Now when you do your final rinse, don’t go all the way back up to the top or you might get more bleed from the top edge. This should do it.

To add to Rob’s great suggestion there is a small rubber seal around the perimeter of glass and sometimes water will weep out from the top. So like he said after scrubbing, stay away from the top part of the frame.

Thanks for the replies. The bleed can be so irritating using conventional methods that I wondered if WFP was practical in that regard. It does seem that the soap solution aggravates the bleed a lot.

Dish soap causes much more bleed in my opinion. When we run into this on a traditional clean, we use only GG4, no soap added. If they are really bad you can add some rubbing alcohol(or similar) the higher evaporation rate helps in my experience.

All I’ve ever used is “Squeegee Off” as that’s what the guy I worked for before venturing on my own used. It seems to work well, but…my hands are always cracking and the above mentioned paint bleed seems to occur with it. I clicked on the link for GG4 and it seems well reviewed plus it advertises no hand cracking which would be nice. I watched a video on here from a member using tsp. During that video he shows his hands and mentioned that he’s never had an issue with hand cracking from tsp. To bring that comment into the original post somewhat…will tsp cause or exacerbate window frame paint bleed?

There are two different issues here. Frame bleed and seal bleed. Seal bleed is the result of soap residue being released by the scrubbing and rinse. The frame bleed is because of oxidized vinyl frames. The UV breaks down the frame and when you scrub and rinse the residue comes off and runs down the window. We scrub the frame first on a few windows then go back and do just the glass making sure to avoid the frame just like Rob suggested.

Who in the world would use tsp on glass?..that’s crazy talk.

Wow. you all gave such great advice. Rob, Art, and Tony all nailed it. I was hoping to cover this very topic in the Waterfed Class on WCR series. But, I didn’t come across any oxidized vinyl frames during the few weeks I was filming. Looks like there’s going to be a season 2 of Waterfed Class, and this is definitely a topic i want to film. Another area where you have to be concerned about the frames is commercial glass. You can check out the episode on commercial glass here: Mile High Window Cleaning Supply

using a water fed pole?

sounds dangerous

Why would your hands crack from using a wfp? Friction?

Negative…I was expanding off my original topic and for that confusion I will poke my eye with a gutter scoop 1000 times…lol.
You guys gave me a great answer in regards to the WFP and “bleed”, then the topic went on to the solution for conventional cleaning. That is when I brought up the video by one of the members here regarding tsp and windows. Anyhow, my original question was satisfied completely and for that I’m thankful.

That is way 2 funny but please take it easy on yourself. Could be my interpretation. Thanks for your input bud
