WFP storage

Hey guys just wondering how you all store your WFP. I’ve got a Chevy Silverado but I want to be able to store it without somebody stealing it out of my truck bed when I am out working. I unload all my stuff at the end of the day and put it in my garage, but I was looking for a way to keep everything safe during the day. I don’t have a ladder rack yet so I was searching around the forum and I read of someone using a pvc pipe. I can’t figure out how to lock it in my bed, my tailgate does not lock. Any ideas or pics on how you all have them. Thanks

I’d get a kit for a PVC pipe that is lockable, or you can do like Micah, and get a PVC pipe with the same length of the bed and get a lock for your tailgate.

I want to add a PVC to my ladder rack for my van, but I have 2 of them and I think the hoses will make everything extra tight, but it my be worth trying.

Search online for an aftermarket tailgate lock (I have a Ford Econoline van.)

Check out Micah’s WFP video. He mentions how he stores his poles with a PVC tube.

Hey Spotless,

Check out this picture. This is a 8 inch PVC pipe. I used treated wood to frame it. You could do something like this, and to lock it, i would cut a 8 inch round piece of wood, slightly under 8 inches actually, so it will fit inside the pvc pipe and won’t get stuck when it’s wet… I would put a knob of some sort on it as well, so you can pull it out easily.

Then drill a hole on top and on bottom. You could then put a pad lock thru each hole, and that round block of wood will not come out with those pad locks on, thus locking the pole.

End caps for that 8 inch pipe are about 30 dollars each!

Find a cheap topper on craigslist???
OR - I have a cargo van, but I built a wooden raised platform for the floor, so I could put long items underneath, and still store stuff on top. Works good for hauling lumber/ladders/wfp…It will look like a piece of plywood from the outside view, unless they drop your tailgate of course. I used a couple 2 x 10’s on end, and 1/2" plywood for the top. I think a 2 x 10 was just tall enough to clear the wheel wells. Good luck!

I understand people are jerks and will steal stuff just to be stealing, but. What in the hell would someone do w/ a 30’-40’ pole? Maybe I’m being obtuse but I don’t see anyone getting alot of money from a pawn shop for a wfp. Around here the pawn shops are full of powertools, chainsaws, skillsaws, air compressors, and hammerdrills.

Just wondering,

Well people will steal no matter what it is. As long as you leave anything in plain site people will take it like its theirs. They might not get much for a WFP but most theifs steal not to get rich but only to make a couple of bucks to calm their addiction…drugs, beer, etc. And if someone gives them $20 bucks for a WFP that cost us more than $500 bucks then they don’t care.
I’m just trying to protect whats mine and what I paid my hard earned money for.

I have a pick-up truck and utility trailer. I’m so paranoid about someone stealing my 28’ Xtel WFP that I always lock it inside the cab of the truck when I’m in a restaurant or even while doing the interiors of homes.

The next work vehicle I get will be a utility van so I can keep tools enclosed in my vehicle and not have to load and unload certain items like the expensive WFP.

Theives will steal anything of value. Don’t tempt them!

I have one of these on my Dakota tailgate, Pop & Lock Corporation - Home

It was really easy to install.

You said it, people steel stuff to steal stuff. A crackhead only needs $10 to get his fix.

Around here a crack head will spend all night busting open a brand new air conditioning unit to get a few bucks worth of copper. Or rip the copper wiring right out of the house.

That’s one of the reasons I made the pvc storage thing in the truck. To keep people from stealing it, and to keep it protected from stuff hitting it. With the tailgate up you can’t even see it, so it works great.

If you wanted to get fancy, and had some cash laying around…

I don’t think I’ve seen one of those before. Thanks for the link Micah!

Uhhh…did he say stainless steel? Watch the crack head steal the stainless tube, only to throw your wfp pole in the ditch on his way to the scrap yard. HA!

I’ve had my catalytic convert cut out from under my truck by what I assume was a crackhead as well. I hear they recycle the uridium or some rare metal that is in it on Toyota’s stock converters.
