So I have another question. Does storefronts usually prefer to have their windows cleaned at a certain time of the day, or are they usually pretty flexible? I’m going to start trying to sell my services to storefronts and in order to have a route that I can service, it’s best if I can go from one place to the next and keep going, rather than be dictated by the business to come at certain hours. What are your experiences about this. Do you usually get to set your own schedule as to what time of day that you come by, or are there storefronts that will only allow you to clean at certain hours?
Do them when you want. I try to do early as possible. Usually like 7:30 or 8 .Especailly if its raining then you dont have to hear owners comments about rain, blah blah. I refuse to do Resturaunts, coffee shops and such too many people always sitting in the way.Too stressful to think about if someones will be in the way. Parking is usually easier too. If they want a narrow time frame, charge the hell out of them.
Thank you Stevepro1 for the information. Yeah, I’ve had a suspicion that restaurants could be a problem with people eating, making cleaning difficult, so I’ll stay away from them for now.
We do tons of restaurants. Most of them we manage to have figured out a good time, ideally before opening, to do them. Some are quite a challenge due to being busy and a very few in almost 4 decades have been completely bad fits.
Thank you danwagner for sharing your experience. I’m cleaning windows part time as of now, so it limits the hours that I can work. Probably when I go fulltime, it will be easier for me to work around restaurant schedules and approach them as well. Sounds like you’ve had a good experience doing them for close to four decades.
We used to operate a cafe and preferred our window cleaning guy come non-operating ours. Most restaurants lean before opening hours. Luckily for him, ours was 10 AM - 11 PM. He was usually up at 5 AM anyway, cleanin the neighboring plazas.
The way we thought about it was the inconvenience for him, as customers would come in once open, and our customers would see him clean windows rather than the view (we had a big front glass where people sat).
Best you find a plaza that wants a shared time, we had several storefronts that opened at 9 AM and one guy to do all.
Limit yourself to restaurants and food establishments in the beginning. Not saying don’t do any, but keep it to one two a day.
It will drive you crazy to figure out the right fit to get there.
Anything else you just go there an clean . If they have a problem with it they will let you know, and then you take it from there.
Never had anyone complain about hours I come. I would also never ask a good time. You’re a business owner you need to do around your best time, but if they bust balls about it you try to comply… If even possible !
Food establishments are common sense you want to be there before they fill up seats by windows.
I turn a lot down cause it just don’t fit !
Appreciate your feedback. Yeah, it would be uncomfortable to clean windows if front of guests trying to enjoy the view. Seems like he had a schedule that worked great for him and your restaurant.
Thank you Majestic66. That makes sense to not take on too many restaurants, in order to serve them before their customers start showing up. Having no experience cleaning restaurants and working solo, it’s good to get feedback from guys like you. Appreciate it!
