What insurance do I need?

I have the tools for window cleaning.I cleaned some family homes last fall to get practice. I want to clean other home and store fronts.I don’t want to be a Bucket BoB. What kind of insurance do i need and how much coverage? For now i will be part time and I will be cleaning on my own.

Most one man/small crews carry 1 million liability insurance. As your operation grows, you’ll need to re-evaluate and adjust accordingly.

Personally, I’ve got 1 million in liability insurance through state farm for about $45/month.

Remember to read you policy carefully and know exactly what’s covered and if there are any exclusions. And again, as your business grows/changes, check in with your agent to make sure your adequately and appropriately covered (example - hiring employees may affect your policy).

Also, if you do land a big job you can always take out additional insurance just for that job.

Hope this helps.

I also have a million dollar liability policy, and I pay $55 a month.

That does help thanks. Is is all pretty new new to me I just don’t want to come across as a BOB.

I called up and visited several insurance agents looking for a policy (some had no clue about insurance for a w/c company), did a search and punched in my info and was contacted by a local company that took care of my needs.

My agent had to search quite a few companies to find one that would carry a window cleaning co. I guess many companies are worried about ladder work. He did finally find Liberty Northwest who now covers me. Find an independant agent who can search out different companies. Lots easier than calling all around.

Would it be better if I cut out ladder work and got a WFP setup

Ladder work is part of the service, wfp does help but sometimes you will need to climb a ladder.

The UK is right now going to prepare for a hose bib ban (spigot) in June/July that is going to affect the water usage for the window cleaners there using wfp. So it is good to be able to do both trad and wfp.

Make sure you have glass breakage. That is an add on for most policies. I pay $55 a year for glass breakage. Total for my company is $555 per year through Acuity.

Thanks everyone all the info is very helpful from all you vets in the biz

One last thing. I’m look at buy a newer car soon. I will need it for cleaning and daily driving since i don’t have the cash for two. Does anyone have any ideas? I’m looking at a suv or a truck

$1M GL for $525 a year through FMI here.

If you pick up some helpers, its about $1k for ever $10k gross income of those helpers here in NJ.
