What is a scrim and why do I need one?

I have long heard of the battle between Hucks Towels and Scrims. Some seem to be completely faithful to the Scrim and it comes with a very long history overseas. I currently use Hucks, so I dont need any information on them.

To the Scrim users…please sell me on it. Will it change my life?

No it won’t change your life. But you will use less hucks, the scrim is more absorbent does not leave lint and dries pretty quick.

Some people love them some people hate them… I guess you have to try for yourself and see if its for you.

I love them. I don’t have to carry a ton of hucks and do loads of laundry. They are the greatest detailing towel hands down.

Scrim is awesome! It changed my window cleaning life.

It may take a little getting used to but it’s the best detailing cloth in existence. And like
Tony said, no more carrying so many hucks and doing so much laundering.

Scrim is a time saver and a money saver. My favorite detailing cloth. One a day on residential. Rotate 2 or 3 for commercial glass with multiple stacked frames or curtains of glass during a work day.

Why do you need one? Because you are a professional window cleaner and you try new things to see if it can improve your operation and profitability, that’s why…

been trying to get used to it.

still dislike it.

can’t beat the size and speed of a huck!

ill have to give it a few more tries before i throw mine out.

I have found scrim to be faster at detailing. Also the size allows me to use one scrim on one large home or 2 average homes. I used to have a ton of hucks to get thru the week and now 10 scrim will last the 2 of us more than a week.
Is it the size you are having the most problem with?

Yeah I would have to say number 1 issues is size.

too cumbersome.

  1. I dont feel it obsorbs nearly as well as a huck. I have been washing it regualry even if i dont use it to try to break it in. but still no luck

ehh i wish i liked it. it was kinda expensive!

Hmmm…I see an opportunity here…what if WCR sold “half-size” scrim for those who don’t like the big ones?

I wanted to like the scrim but just wasn’t satisfied with the results I was getting.

What results were you getting?

It was leaving some moisture behind as I detailed the edges. And if left, dries as a hazy line around the glass. Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance. Tried it on a few jobs but maybe will try it again to see for sure.

i own about 20 scrims and love this cloth . i know im supposed to wet them in my bucket, wring them out before using them but ive never got around to doing it the proper way. ive just been using them dry and after detailing 1 window they have a slight damp feel and work well. im shortly going to buy a few tea-towel cloths to use as a sill wiper as ive just used the scrim as a sill wiper ,this has meant i dirty the scrim and have needed to go through about 5 scrims in 1 day . ive found the scrims rough cloth is great at scrubbing marks and crud off a sill .this leaves the sill looking shiney and polished looking, impressive , im sure homeowners notice it ,however none have ever commented.

im not sure tea-towels will be abrasive enough,in fact before buying tea-towels im going to look for a slightly abrasive small cloth that will be wet but not dripping wet ,hanging on my belt

Sounds to me like its not quite broken in yet. I had that same problem too until I soaked it down and tied it around the base of the ladder rack and let it dry while driving, I did that a couple days in a row. With that being said I still don’t really use it that much due to the size.

Hmmmmm. I might try that. Thanks Jay

Yep that will help a bit.
