Starting to get all the tool to clean windows I can afford a pole and a ladder i’m confused why I would need both if they do the same thing reach where you can’t
Depending on how far you need to reach, poles can take a bit of skill. If it’s a choice for me between poling second story windows or putting up a ladder, I put up a ladder, cause I suck at pole work. Ladders will get you on roofs to reach windows you just can’t with a pole. Good to have both.
For route work you need to know how to use a pole. For residential maybe ladder.
I guess it depends on what height you’re talking about . If it’s route work for 9ft windows , then yeah pole will work better . 2 storey windows on a resi , get a ladder out . Get both, because sometimes latter work is not safe so you have to pole it , but using a pole successfully takes lots of practice.
If you get a ladder, be sure to get some levelers and never put it on a questionable surface like wet decks, glossy concrete, rugs etc.
Depends on the job. If the windows are very dirty it’s better IMO to get nose to glass so a ladder is better in that situation.
If it’s residential windows and it’s not very dirty you can use a poe but it’s hard to trad pole because there isn’t the larger frames like commercial to keep your squeegee on the glass. Some style of residential windows allow you to effectively trad pole and some are much more difficult to where IMO it’s just easier to ladder it. The best option for using a pole on residential windows that are super dirty is a wfp.
On commercial it’s a different ball game. You can use a pole on dirty windows and maintenance cleans very effectively with traditional methods. You can also use a wfp. It’s much more efficient in commercial to use a pole. Again that’s my opinion.
What? I have to disagree on that one.
You mean you disagree that that is my opinion?
No, I’m disagreeing that a WFP is the best thing for a really dirty resi window.
But are you looking to discuss my opinion or to argue my opinion? It would seem to me you are looking to argue since you state a disagreement. If you were looking for a discussion I would think you would ask me why I feel the way I do.
If you’re interested in more about my opinion I’d be glad to share my thoughts. I’m just not interested in arguing the point. I’m just here to share my opinion and be helpful. I’m not interested in disagreeing much. I hope you can respect that?
If you disagree I would encourage you to simply share your own opinion on the thread apart from mine and let your opinion stand on its own merit.
My apologies, I thought you were suggesting using a WFP as a go-to for nasty windows.
The opposite. My experience with using a wfp to clean a windows that hasn’t been kept up with is that it doesn’t remove the dirt all the way. You can use a scrub pad but even if it removes the dirt in the center of the pane it doesn’t get along the edges well enough to pass the mustard. For that reason I prefer to ladder up and use traditional methods on most first time residential cleans.
When the wfp is effective it does awesome and you can’t beat it but when it does work effectively it is just wasting time and it’s better to just get it done with traditional methods. That is just my opinion, though I would say it is a qualified opinion.
Interesting take, I use wfp on every residential job for every window (aside from randomly placed windows on roofs tucked away somewhere).
Boars hair brush and xero contact scrubber are a sick combo. I’ve got several different brush options in the van that I change out depending on what job I’m at.
Here and there I’ve had to put my scraper on another pole, but that’s so few and far between.
Ditto; I cut the pads a touch bigger than the base so it seats in the corners, great combination with a bores hair brush for tougher cleans.
You guys must just have dirt. We have silicone, artillery fungus, bird strikes, fallout, screen deposits and hard water stains.
Those border on razor territory, and when that comes out, so does the scratch wavier and big boy X2 pricing. $$$$ @dcbrock
Ladders and poles are like hands and feet. @Mark_izo
Neither is better. One is not superior to the other in any way. Both are valuable in different ways.
Your going to need all the tools of the trade. Polls and ladders are some of the tools of the trade. Even if you don’t use a ladder to clean the window. You going to need it to get on a roof every once in a while
Like peole have already mentioned. Sometimes your going to need to be nose to glass. Hence ladders needed.
