What is the connection between a life-raft and your struggling business?
Are you hinting to us that your business is sinking? That you can’t stay afloat?
Seriously, I don’t understand what your getting at by the pics or by pointing out somebody else’s website and calling it “crappy”.
It’s just something interesting I thought I’d show. I took that picture today; it’s on display in the transit station.
Why is it “not good” that I read your post/rant?
Then why did you also refer to it as a “liferaft”?
Is a “makeshift raft” really an accurate symbol for what the people of Miami are like-- of which you are one?
Why is it not good that Clearview read your post? Do you not want him to read what you have written?
Also, I’m well aware how people have come to America. Christopher Columbus also came to America on a boat.
I’m honestly trying to understand what it is that you seem to be so upset about. If you hate Miami so much-- why are you there? Can you not relocate to a more suitable city/town.
Nice raft man, are you saying window cleaners are floating in from Cuba and taking your business? I really enjoy your posts man
Sorry but the biz is not dead in Florida, Miami has exclusive neighborhoods, start doing residential and maybe some pressure washing, all of the gated communities down there require roof cleaning to be done, go hustle and it will work out
Clearview is the name of a company down here that I tried to work at before starting my own, but I guess you’re not affiliated with them. And I really, just plain really, did not want to quit and leave here and I’m not going to but business really is slower than you would think. Even in the upscale residential areas, you rarely see any type of window/pressure, or roof cleaning happening. Part of it is the very, very mild climate during the winter. Especially this year. It’s only rained about three times this year. It’s a pretty bad drought, actually. In May there should be over five inches of rain, but it’s only rained hard once this month.
The majority of your posts come off as whiny – it’s annoying and non-productive.
Why are you here at this forum?
Perhaps you will have more sucsess in a smaller, less competitive market. Also, trying to get your start in the high-rise market may be more headache than it’s worth. You may want to consider focusing your resources elsewhere.
High-rise window cleaning companies are probably well established and have a proven track record doing such dangerous work. I would think that many building managers would not look twice at a young start-up company that has few if any references in that type of work.
I’m not saying your not skilled or qualified, but you have to see it from your customers perspective. High-rise window cleaning is extremely risky, the liability is enormous. They are going to want a company that has already been doing it successfully for a while before they take a chance with a company.
That’s interesting that you chose a super-violent video game as the design palette for the logo.
I wonder if it might actually hurt you, with the impression you’re trying to create.
I hope not.
Hopefully the people that would find it offensive are oblivious, and that some who like it will give their business.
Just a thought, figured I’d share it.
As far as the pricing thing goes, there is no such thing as “the going rate” in any market.
Some guys price super low, some super high, and most are in the middle.
You make a good point, though, about negative connotations with low prices. That can happen, because our minds work that way. Good to be aware of it.
Here’s a really good question to ponder: What can you do for people in your market that will make your company unique?
If you can find a way to answer that in a relevant and honest way, you’ll be able to get away more often with higher prices.
What do you guys know about monorail systems. Specifically, have you ever used, or heard of one being used, as an anchor for an rds/bosun’s chair? I don’t own a trolley and the building doesn’t seem to have one. The section that needs it under 15 floors and would land on the ground.
Don’t give up. As the other guys said, there are people in your market that will pay more, if you give them a good reason to.
try reading Stephan Schiffman’s “Ask Questions, Get Sales : Close the Deal and Create Long-Term Relationship”.
This should help you land more sales.
Good Luck.
There is no way it is as slow as you say, you need to target a different audience. The mild winter should help you and roof cleaning is big in Miami
In Michigan, we range from $60 to $100 a man hour. You will have to learn how long it takes to figure out how many man hours will go into specific jobs, then price them that way. For several jobs, take your estimated man hour price and divide it by the number of panes to see where you are ending up. After a while, you will learn how long each window takes and what you price them per pane. I typically estimate for about $65 a man hour and we usually end up around $75 but sometimes get into $100 range, which at that point I will adjust their price down. Generally speaking a house of double hungs you can do about $2.50 per pane on the outside ($5 total for exterior of double hung) and same for inside bringing it to $10 per pane in and out.
