About an hour ago one of my guys called and said they cracked a storm pane of glass in a customer’s house. The homeowner wasn’t upset, actually very kind about it but we are obviously going to replace it for him. I haven’t actually seen these windows in person but I do know they’re newer (less than ten years) storm windows that were in a sunroom.
The bottom storm’s glass is cracked from the top right to bottom left. Where do you take these to get them repaired? Any idea how much it runs?
The homeowner suggested Ace Hardware… do they do this stuff? (I’ll call them now)
Cool, not too bad. I got a quote from Ace Hardware for $35 but they said it’d take 3 weeks… unless there’s no other choice, having the client just put up with a big hole in their wall for 3 weeks is completely out of the question.
Already emailed a few glass companies, hopefully one is quick.
Most hardware stores will replace storm glass, and some will do it on site in a day or two
just make sure the frame stays intact, and keep a piece of glass in case its tinted or something so that it can be replaced with same.
If its a storm window, then there should be no hole in the wall, just a missing storm, close the house window or just put the other storm up and the screen down
if you cant get it done quick enough most are fairly simple to do yourself. just make sure you pay attention when taking it apart so you can put it back together. You can go to Lowes and get glass(better still a local hardware store), around here Home depot dosent carry glass only plexi. If you still have any small non chain hardware stores in your area that is probably your best bet for a quick turnaround.
Northside Glass here in town is fixing it, already dropped it off and they should have it fixed by tomorrow. $39.38 with tax.
The frame was a little bent up; I don’t know if that was from before or after it broke…they may not be able to make the frame perfectly straight again but otherwise it’ll look brand new.
Thanks for all the input, I hope I don’t need it again for a good long while.
