I ran the unger easy glide with a lil dawn the other day using RO water. I did the customers frames with brush, following the panes with a mop and had a few windows I had to double back on with the steel wool because of some runs. I need something that will not give me this problem.
Was going to give glass gleam 3 a try…the orange stuff.
Water, dawn, and ammonia almost 100% of the time. The ammonia cleans just about everything we encounter in residential. Also, it provides great glide. The dawn makes good suds, making visibility good when we mop. Contrary to some views, the dawn doesn’t make much glide. It’s the ammonia that makes it slip. However, more ammonia doesn’t necessarily mean more slip.
We keep gg4 on the truck specifically for windows that have tint. In those situations, ammonia can breakdown the tint adhesive. Although to be fair we’ve never seen that happen when on occasion we’ve accidentally used ammonia on tint. But if we know ahead of time, we take the extra precaution.
We don’t use alcohol because we are in low country and so we don’t have many days of freezing temps. But I’ve heard it’s good!
@DanTheWindowMan
I’ve tried gg4 and don’t get what’s so great about it. What solution do you use?
I have used joy for the past 6 years and have had no issues. I’ve recently started putting a little glide in and like the extra slip but it seems inconsistent
I used that GG4 today with a lil dawn for slip and it worked good. The stuff didn’t leave any shit behind like the unger product. The water in my area is like 550ppm out the tap. Worked out!
I’m wondering if weather climate has an effect on the overall glass in a specific area/state /region. I’ve tried gg3 and gg4 and I enjoyed it but found it too expensive for what I can get for 1/5 the price for more.
I don’t use ammonia , hate the smell, and what it does to hands, even with gloves. And I don’t see much benefit in my area.
I use the unger glide I buy gallons from Amazon for 1/4 the price of here, and mix about a shot glass or two and two squirts of dawn with 1-2 gallons of water, and use a separate bucket with 4 gallons pure water for rinsing, always using the RODI water.
Works great on everything I encounter except old dried paint, need my trust blade for that.
I use scrub daddy and not steel wool!
Find your mix, find the pros and cons you decide you can and willing to compensate for…
Everything and I mean everything has a proper place, what works for joe, doesn’t work for bob.
I use special rags and hucks towels. Others use scrims, microfiber , etc etc… find and discover you in your business!!
Consensus is gg3,gg4, unger glide, or dawn.
Sometimes ammonia. Each with their own special combinations and mixes! Trial and error! Fun part of window cleaning, kinda hard to fuck up. Although plenty seem to do it, haha!!
