Which pole to use

Hi,

I’m starting a residential window business, and am having trouble finding the right size channels and scrubbers from just one manufacturer - so I’m wondering if I buy an unger pole, will that fit ettore (and/or steccone) handles also?

thanks,
Brian

Hey Brian for the most part everything’s compatible… If you feel like giving me a ring I can walk you through your purchase decision… Or if you just have any specific equipment questions… feel free to drop me a line.

I would be happy to help.

Thanks Chris, I appreciate that. Not to be presumptuous, but here is a list of other items that I’ll be purchasing - Items I feel I need to do a professional job in a residence. Do you have any suggestions?

the larger items (ladders) I’ll buy locally to avoid the heavy shipping costs/time.

here’s the list - what do you think?

6”, 10”, 14”, 18” channels – Steccone aircraft aluminum
6”, 10”, 18” scrubber sleeve – unger micro-fiber
6”, 10”, 18” scrubber sleeve – unger monsoon plus

Two swivel T-Bars (
Two swivel, quick-release handles (will unger / ettore handles work with steccone channels?)

1” detail scraper
6” Triumph MK3 angled scraper
Triumph scraper holster

Belt with loop for towel (ettore belt has an open loop)

BOAB – unger

Belt pouch, water proof (to hold 6” detail squeegee and sea sponge)

Replacement rubber – unger

Inside and outside shoe covers

Scrim 3 pack

Mr. Longarm pole and 0-degree 18” squeegee

24’ pole

6’ ladder

24’ ladder

Ladder standoff

Level-lok (pair)

Unger bucket, lid, sieve

Glass Gleam 4 (hard water area but many homes have softeners, so is it good for soft water too, or not???)

Drop towel

Sea sponge

Bungee rope (or something to secure my larger ladder to the luggage rack of my SUV)

If your looking into a 0 degree handle think about the Contour Pro+ as it will lock to 0 degree or can be used as a regular handle. It will fit the Steccone channels. Ettore also makes an aluminum channel so you might wan to think about that.
GG4 should work fine for your area.
The Ettore handle will fit the Unger pole but will not take advantage of the locking mechanism on the new Unger pole tip.

Just as a heads up. Unger doesn’t make any 6" scrubbers or t-bars.

Ettore handles are specifically made for Ettore poles, the same goes for Unger products.

They can be swapped but you will not get the best fit if you mix brands too much.

I think Ettore makes better rubber than Unger and most of the other guys will agree. Other than that it sounds like you have done your research.

The 12" and 14" channels are the most popular sizes for double hung windows on residential work. I almost never use my 10’ channel.

As a side note - When you get some cash in the bank you might want to look into some sectional ladders. JMO

+1

Hey Brian,
I use Ettore handles and Unger poles, but I use the Unger wooden tip not a plastic one. I like the wooden tips best. They work great on my hogs hair brush, strip washers, and all kinds of squeegees. The handles never get stuck like they do with plastic tips.

I made a lot of mistakes when I started out cause I thought I knew what I needed but really had NO IDEA. I suggest you let Chris and the guys at WCR help ya out. Check out the store here and if you have any questions about the product check out the video or call/email Chris. Just trying to help. Dont make the same mistake I did

thanks Tony, Alex, Mike and Simply glass. I’ve been reading a lot of other posts today and you guys rock!

I understand you Simply Glass… I just hate the idea of being under-prepared. I do plan on calling Chris this week.

I think you can trust Alex not to load you up with a lot of unnecessary equipment because they run their crews at All County Window Cleaning lean and mean. Sometimes less is more.

i use a pulex 6metre telescopic ali pole with a wagtail on the top- but its heavy . im thinking of trying a fishing pole , not sure if they are strong enough though ,im looking for a useable height of about 9 metres . anybody got any pole experience with a squeegee at this height?what pole??

I have an Unger Tele-Plus 30’ (5 X 6’) for use at that height.

(Haven’t tried a squeegee yet on my Gardiner SL-X 35 with Reach Higher Ground Reach Around yet.)

That Pulex pole is a little heavy Jonny - & it’ll rust after a while, more than their competitors. I find a kite pole excellent for both wfp & trad. Failing that I like the Ettore poles, slightly lighter than Pulex & Unger & more controllable. I find the new Ettore lockable tips a joke - I’d wish they had thought that one through.

I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t think unger rubber is compatible with Steccone channels. All I use is Ettore, Sorbo(sorry WCR), and Pulex.
One other thing I am sure of is you should seriously consider ratcheting straps to secure your ladders if you are using a luggage rack and not a roof rack with a locking mechanism. You’re playing with fire if you use bungee cords. I started with bungees for a few years and found that you have to use several to really keep a ladder in place, but they will lose their strength, especially if you don’t loosen them when you are not traveling. I was driving home on I-84 one time on a very windy afternoon and saw my ladder twisting back and forth about a foot at a time. Very scary!
Ratcheting straps are better/safer, professional racks and locks are better yet.
