Why do Casements open outward?

Not only does this make it impossible to get nose to glass, but if a hinge breaks the window will come crashing down to the street, possibly taking me with it.

That said, the job did have a nice view.

Because if it opened inward, you would have to move your stuff everytime you opened a window lol.

That would be a good thing. People wouldn’t put crap on the sills.

Its the man trying to mess with ya.:stuck_out_tongue:
In Germany majority of windows open inward and tilt open from the top. Guess in America we do things differently.

Because if they opened inward there would be a lot less homeowners cleaning their own windows and less window cleaners in the world!

the only time I almost fell off a roof was when I had to walk the roof across one of these windows on the secondlevel and grabbed on to it as an anchor point.
as soon as I put pressure and leaned back to manuever around it the bottom hinge was so rusted that it gave way and the window almost broke off, If I had put my full body weight I would have fell backwards for sure off the roof.

from that moment on I learned never to grab on to a window for support or anchor.
I either make sure my position on the ladder allows me room to move without grabbing to the window or if im walking a roof to not grab windows.

That being said, most all windows that I have come across that open outward, especially the newer awnings/casements, have a rotating lever on the inside to open the window, that lever would be in the way if the window had to open inward.

Sort of one of those wish the home owner might have mentioned that he has a bad window so be careful. The heart skip a beat for a second I’ll bet.
