Anyone figured out how to fix poles that lock and bind when twisting and locking them down? The last few poles I’ve bought keep binding up on me in about 4-6 months.I never had this problem until recently. The Garelick poles and Ettore do this. I do use the poles more these days with the zero degree. It would be nice to be able ot fix these poles that bind up because I’m going through allot of them.
Good question. The only times that my poles lock up is when someone else uses them. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I’ve never used the garelick poles, but my ettore’s seem to only do that when the metal is corroding inside and its filthy dirty, and also WHEN I LEND IT OUT AND TOO MUCH PRESSURE IS APPLIED, they bend the poles just a hair.
Man I hate that too.
I’ve never been able to bend one back either. Not perfectly.
Torrey makes a good point. Most people do not clean the scones, so dirt gets all down in the mechanism and causes them to stick. Also they over tighten the scone as Tory says. The Garlick poles can not be taken apart and cleaned.
I finally got sick of my telescopic poles breaking, so now I use my 18ft Brodex WFP as my “squeegee pole” and my nLite for WFP uses only. Makes a huge difference!
I just started using white lithium grease in the cone.
I think you may find the grease will attract more dirt and eventually be worse that before. I have a little giant ladder and they recommend Endust to help the aluminum parts to slide easy. I have not used it on the poles, but I would think it would work well as it is not sticky and will keep this moving easily. Just a thought.
Garlick recomends flushing them out periodically.
do you think silicone would have worked better?
Do to all of your insights here I decided to recollect on the Garelick Pole . I do like it because it is lite weight and when your first get them they work great. Cones transfer easy. Can set to perfect height for poling windows and skylites. Beautiful.Couldn’t be better. Then I realized the first thing to wear out is that black handle.Thats when it starts to fall apart for me. If I wash the pole off I can’t take it indoors because water holds up in it and drips out as soon as I extend it. Not cool on that white carpet of Mrs Hansens who’s looking at you because she just got her carpets cleaned. She keeps following you around the house with that snippy dog that keeps barking at you. And that black handle starts moving up and down the pole . That is annoying too. Even if you wipe it down it leaks water out. Not cool. It starts acting like a suction device.Have you ever noticed that? That black handle has to be improved. That’s one thing. You could have an indoor pole and an outdoor pole but the outdoor pole could still have problems with binding do to water and gutter dirt ect.
+1
After futzing with an Unger pole today, ( I had to crank really hard on the cone to keep the top section from spinning.) I grabbed a Garelick to finish the windows and noticed that the Garelick anodising was very corroded. Before I put it away I scrubbed the sections with a green pad and cleaned it up. I have used only ordinary cleaning solutions with this pole so I don’t understand why it would corrode like this. And now I will have to keep an eye on them more becouse the anodising is gone. Tomorrow I will check my other Garelicks and flush them out just for good measure. The Ungers are good poles and I probably just have replace some cone parts. The Garelicks I think are handier though but from what I have read here they don’t have a long life span.
Ettore pole handles can fit on the Garelick pole if you have the right pole.
