I do not recommend install without education. There are many films avalible and the best film will depend on the required result. One thing to remember DO NOT INSTALL A NON REFLECTIVE WINDOW FILM TO IG UNITS. Feel free to call me or email and I can help you. another issue is that most reputable film distributors will not sell to you really easily. They do not want amatures putting out bad tint jobs. I am a Madico and 3M dealer, but have used others. You will get the quality you pay for. To learn film install seems simple and easy however, To master film install is another story especially auto tint.
Do not install film with normal soap. I like tint slime or film on, johnsons & johnsons baby shampoo will work as well. The less soap the better but more difficult to intall. You will also need some specially designed tools and squeegees for water extraction.
Knife - ofla 13 point snap off blade. I prefer a nt red dot. DO NOT USE THE CARBON BLADE IN THE KNIFE IT WILL SCRATCH WINDOWS, learned that the hard way and had to replace a rear window in a linclon contenental.
White doodle bug pads or blue 3M scotch bright pads.
6 " scraper
Your squeegee of choice for cleaning
Sprayer can be whatever will work but must be clean. I have used the poly 2 style, garden sprayers, and now I use a 3 gallon corney keg with half full install solution and put about 100 psi into it. I can intall 500 sq/ft before a refill with no pumping.
A 5 way trim tool would be handy for a beginner.
An unger pro handle with a 4" blue max to extract the water from behind film.
Teflon hard card wraped with a towel to bump edges after triming
Remove as much water as possible to aid in cure time.
Alot.
This is due to my speed and experiance. there is however alot more to running a successful tint business than slinging film. One must know and be able to explain the different films and understand glass and glazing. The wrong film will get hot and break glass.
Again learning to install film takes just a few minutes. Clean and high quality installs take years of practice.
I would LOOOOVVVE to live somewhere warm enough to require window tinting!!
A buddy of mine, Bryant from NC came to stay with me last summer & he does nothing but window tinting there - he’s busy even in winter (mostly new cars in winter),… but it seems to be a very well paying job & he reckons something that a detail conscious window cleaner could learn quickly enough.
