Windows above screen enclosure

How would you guys clean these windows above the screen enclosure? Would walking along the edge be ok? I weigh 140. Since it’s not completely flat it makes me a little nervous. So to avoid walking on that slope, do I climb out the window and stand on the edge of the enclosure? Or if the bottom sash folds in, should I do it that way? Any advice is appreciated  In all my years of window cleaning, I’ve never lived anywhere with screen enclosures like this so I’m figuring it out as we go!

If the windows do not swing in, in order to access the outside, I let the customer know they are unreachable and won’t be cleaned.

Try not to stand on anything, ever, that does not have an obvious strong foundation.

This is bad luck getting a job with windows like this, and that solarium wow! never seen one like it reallly

Just use your best judgement to clean the windows. The rest of us are going to shout out what we would do, but I get the feeling that you are just starting out and don’t have the experience to WFP from the roof like I would do (yes, I tie off first before leaning over that edge…)

Safety is first priority…

I have a customer out at the beach who has a screen enclosure built up to a steep pitch roof, but a catwalk was added to allow access to that area. People rarely think about maintenance when they do install stuff like this.

The bottom window probably comes out and if you have monkey arms you can get the top or you could sit outside of the window with one foot hanging down while holding onto the gutter… yolo

Used to work for a company that builds those enclosures. They are definitely sturdy enough to walk them, just better have good balance and sure of foot.

Keeps the bugs and birds out. Vultures sometimes roost on them though; talk about some stank! It is illegal to shoo them away. Government at work for ya.

Is it legal to light fireworks on your porch? Is it legal to put a smoker on your porch? Lol

The last time we had a job with windows over a screen enclosure I walked on it fine, so I know they are sturdy. That one was completely flat though, and the beams were closer together. I haven’t seen this one in person, but my gut feeling is that I don’t want to walk on it.

I like your WFP idea…my husband is going to see this and tell me, “see how much we need one?” It’s in our plans, but we can’t do it quite yet. I’m not new to window cleaning, but new to owning a business and cleaning windows in Florida so there’s a lot for us to learn still. Thanks for your input. I agree about safety first!

Always listen to your gut. People who have bad accidents often have had a gut feeling, and did it anyway.

In certain cases, yes. Mostly unless someone makes a complaint against you you’re good.

From WFC website:
"…Vultures are under state protection, therefore it is unlawful to shoot
or harass them without a permit from the FWC. If however, the vulture
is tearing up a screen porch, or chewing up shingles or roofs, then you
may want to consider scaring them with Pyrotechnics. The Wildlife Services group of the United States Department of Agriculture at 352-377-5556 can provide more information."

i would touch with a ten foot or any other length pole!
would only do it if windows are designed to swing in for cleaning.

And if they don’t then shoot who ever designed it without a catwalk! lol
