Glad winter is coming to an end. Here in the Boston area we had plenty of snow and ice. The towns and the owners of stores use rock salt or similiar to clear the front sidewalks. It becomes hard to clean the windows in one pass, so it might take me two passes and a lot of buffing to get the windows clean. My solution gets filled with the rock salt as I get to the bottom of these windows which leave a white residue on the windows on the sides. Sometimes I have to park 1/2 block away which makes it difficult to change my solution often. This makes the job go slower. Does any one have any suggestions? Or is it just the nature of window cleaning in winter.
What’s snow and ice???
How attached is the rock salt to the windows?
Would a stiff car brush on a pole work to remove the rock salt while dry before wetting the window to clean it?
I would use an Ettore Super Brush on a pole first to get the loose garbage off the sills.
I think brushing off as much as you can before wetting is a good start. I don’t like using a bucket, so what I have done in the past is use a 1 gallon poland springs bottle with the little carry handle on top(not sure if they still use this kind). Then you punch a hole in the top with a phillips head screwdriver. This way your not dipping your scrubber in nasty water. You can use the bucket for rinsing. You can also do it to soda bottles as well.
I never even gave that a thought. Other than watching videos, I am self taught, and work alone so I have no other access to basic info or techniques that others use. Glad I was able to ask the question. Next time I will bring the brush and use it first on the window/door to remove the rock salt, etc on the bottom of the doors and windows. Thanks
Are you in boston proper or the burbs?
I have a water bottle holder on my utility belt and a 32oz squirt bottle. Also, I use a bucket on a belt. It saves you the trouble of lugging around a 5 gal. bucket of water all day. When I’m doing something similar to what you’ve mentioned, I bring a pad of magic eraser along and scrub out the rough stuff.
