Winter season

I was wondering how many of us actually work thru winter and how many take a few months off? I quit residential in Jan, feb, and march if weather isnt good yet and keep up commercial accts as best as I can thru winter…I hate the cold …even with 4 layers on…I guess too that this question would apply to the wcs who live in bad winter weather states…do you all have other jobs then? I use to bartend in the winter but for the past 3 years didnt have to because of enough comm work in the winter, its still hard but managable…we do some xmas lites for our customers too…appreciate any feedback:) thanks…ps: love this site:D

We work all year w/ our monthly house route. We did the video series to help wcers see weather or not:D they could do it.

Tony, what video series are you talking about? …“weather”…clever

It’s here on the forum. Go to the WCR custom content part of the forum and there are video series. Tool Talk, Mr. Sanchez, Blind Cleaning, WCR Nation, Weather or Not, etc.
Or you can go to the home page. Down the right side are links to each video series.

We work all winter as well. I can manage the cold on my body, it’s the ‘keeping the water from freezing’ part that is annoying. -17f (not counting windchill) was my record this year.
Mostly commercial, but some residential clients like a winter cleaning.

Here in kansas with the winters the ole window cleaning routine drys up towards the end of December til April which sucks but have my magazine business which is year round which helps to keep the bucks rolling on in. Only thing you can do is either make enough to last you over the cold spell, adding commercial account with the odd residential, get a second job or start a 2 or 3 business like I did.

Being in Louisiana, we clean all year long. In Jan & Feb the avg temp is still in the 40’s and 50’s so alot of days some of my guy’s still wear shorts!

windowman

Florida doesn’t have a winter

I’m year round resi & commercial here. Residential window cleaning slows down in Jan & Feb but I have commercial window cleaning & gutter cleaning that helps me get through those two months.

That must be a long commute from North Cackalacka

My business runs all yr long. You learn to adjust to the weather. It is amazing what your body can get used to. I we hit the 50’s in Jan , Feb it is like a heat wave. LOL It isn’t the cold that gets you so much . It is the flippin wind that makes those real cold days blow. The way I see things you make your living between mid April and mid Dec. The other 3 1/2 months you work to grow your business. You need to learn to spread your money out over those months. This is when a lot of So called professional WC’s hibernate for the winter. Perfect time to pick up some new accounts.

I do commercial and a few residential in winter. As Tony says his videos are very helpful with tips that make it easier. This year I learned from a UK thread how to wfp in the winter. The nice part about wfp is you do not have to touch the water with your hands. The lowest I wfp was 21 degrees.

Residential all year round. We do have some cold winters and we see a ton of snow. Bundle up and give it few weeks. you will get used to it if you are out there everyday. I think the coldest day we had was -8 + wind chill but we have had some down to -14 + wind chill.

It’s about acclimatizing yourself and using layers. We worked to -25F w/ the windchill.

your video is worth a thousand words! God Bless you Tony!
I shut down Jan/Feb/March
