Happy New Years to you to Chad!
Dude Change your Strip Washer !! LOL
Lol what’s wrong with it bro?
How did the mix work out for you on the job today Chad?
Hey Steve. It worked really well. Thanks man!
They look dirty huh?
Hey guys, it’s been a while since I posted this thread. Since this thread post, we have seen many days with temps under 10 degrees. We ended up going to out local wholesale store and purchasing rubbing alcohol. We discovered that a solution of 2 gallons of washing fluid, one 32 ounce bottle of rubbing alcohol and a little but of Dawn dish soap to help the squeegee’s, glide did the trick.
If you try this, a quick tip is to leave your bucket outside when cleaning a customers property as the alcohol smell can be strong at times. We also put the buckets in the garage over night. We had a guy who left his in his route car and when he came in the next morning the smell was strong.
Good luck out there. Let’s hope we’ve seen the last of these freezing temps!
We don’t use the mixed alcohol solution inside. It’s not needed, has an odor that we don’t want left behind and if you drip on wall, carpet or flooring it can cause damage.
Although it can be a pain to have two buckets, can always simplifly with a non mixed water bottle for the interior’s.
So far I tried 2 things and number 2 works beauty.
- Little water with tons of washer fluid AND GG4/dawn dish soap. This resulted in my solution staying wet until it was applied to the window. Then it froze and it was annoying. And it pissed me off cause I had to deal with it that day lol.
So, next time I around I figured it was the soap that froze so fast and I made this 1 change.
- Even less water and mostly all washer fluid. Knowing GG4 is a powerful cleaner on its own, I skipped adding the soap. Perfect mix. The GG4 was not freezing like the soap was, allowing me to clean with out any issues.
So, I’m going to try again when it gets super cold to make sure it wasn’t weather related. Both days were cold as balls but I did not check temperatures so I can’t say that this had no influence. Although, the days were similar in feel. I’ll be more aware on details next time but like it was mentioned above…that dish soap freezes baaaaaaddddddd
I use a mix of windshield washer fluid and water, just washer fluid, if it’s very cold.
I also use a bucket heater in a five gallon bucket, hot solution cleans better and keeps your hands from freezing too.
One thing to remember - don’t let your washer fluid boil or it loses anti-freeze properties! Make it hot, but unplug it before it boils.
Hot water on cold glass can easily crack
Never had a problem, I dip my washer in bucket with hot water, ring out on the ground (not your bucket:) and by the time you touch the glass with the washer it is no longer very hot.
I see glass cracking if you splash it with a lot of scalding water from your fiver, but only when it’s very cold, below 0F
I always use warm water, today was -9 out and no sun, so the Windows always seem to be colder. Straight washer fluid on a wet warm mop works great for me. The only time I have problems in those temps or colder is when I add soap or anything else to the solution.
Agreed to Valex.
