Would you outsource your phone calls?

Thanks man for that post.

I get a clearer picture of what you guys are doing with the ball park estimates. My experience pricing work is in another industry where every job has different danger levels. Our prices could be 10x as much for essentially the same amount of work just because of the obstacles involved in the work area and the increased time it would take to do it safely. We never gave estimates over the phone. The jobs we serviced wanted a fixed price, and any changes to it meant the job would be canceled and the whole thing a waste of time. We had crews (high payed skilled tradesmen) to work so a cancellation meant you either had better have another job to go to, or you were out of the pay for the help that had showed up and you had them knocking doors for their pay, which none of them wanted to do. This will take a lot of adjustment for me, even though I will be doing this solo.

yeah, the example i gave is for a 1 story house and so there is not much variation. the larger the house or the taller the house the harder it is to give an over the phone estimate but also i’m confident that between our 5 ladders and 2 WFP’s we can reach any window, you can’t know that when you’re starting out and don’t have all the equipment.

It will be awhile before I am busy enough to worry about this call back dilemma, but I knew that if I chimed in then it would get more posts. :stuck_out_tongue:

what field?

Tree removal

Jill’s office, $5 a month, $1.50 a call, they call set appointments, take messages, and call back if needed. Your phone rings first, if you don’t answer they do.

I answer 98% of the time, that 2% is the crazy up a ladder moment. But I call back as soon as I hit the ground.
I answer when I’m driving and talk about the job. I then tell them that I’m driving down the highway can’t check my calendar but if they would please send me a message with their address and the correct spelling of their name I will call him as soon as I pull over. Haven’t lost anyone yet. Hint: you don’t really have to be driving, just in the groove of cleaning and not wanting to stop. People really just like knowing you answered their call and that it’s important for you.

Definitely opened up my mind.

I agree with this. Owning a previous lawn care company, people at least want to be acknowledged. Even you pick up and say you will call them back within the next few minutes.

We never answer the phone. Ever. Well hardly ever.

Our voicemail directs people to email us or to our website where they can get an online estimate through Responsibid.

There is no one right way to do things. It all depends on your business and how you are building it.

We really only service repeat customers and by referrals so if they do call they are willing to wait. We’ve trained people over the years to email. I hate talking on the phone. Haha
