I’m not an animal psychologists, nor do I want to spend time letting dogs sniff me, inspect me or make friends with me… Animals can be as equally unpredictable as people… You just never know what will set them off… Why put yourself through the trouble of worrying? It’s not like your sending the animal to prison for life… Just a couple hours so the job can get done. I say better safe than sorry…
If a dog is aggressive with strangers, then yes, put it away; if not I am content with it following me around the house and getting a head or ear scratch as part of my visit.
Today’s job the Shar Pei was aggressive and right up snarling close. The customer put the dog away while I worked. Oddly it seemed less concerned when I was outside working. Whatever, not a comfortable dog to be around. Rarely do I run into that.
