DangerousDange/Just asking

NO fall protection

That roof is to steep to be walking around on ( according to osha)

Those roofs can be VERY slippery

I am not a roofer, but I’m not sure if we should be walking on wood shingles or clay, especially if we do not know where to step.
I have seen roofers on them, but they are trained and experienced on what you can and can’t do and they know how secure different styles of shingles can be.
I would not want to walk this roof myself just because of the pitch, and a bad left knee.

Accident waiting to happen.

The only thing I DO see is stupidity. No offence to the guy but come on now. That roof has a nice pitch to it. No amount of $ is worth me falling from a roof

Me and my buddies use the the letter H to describe horrible, hideous, or any other bad situations. This picture is H.

I would never use a backpack blower on a roof. Your balance is thrown way off. Also that ladder is not sticking out 3 feet above the edge of the roof. And what are those, rain boots? I don’t think I would use those to walk that roof. And the obvious, which chris already mentioned, no fall protection.

I am with Chris, no fall protection. Not sure when the pic was taken, but osha requires you to have a harness now when working on a pitched roof. That guy, either way, is a moron.

Cedar shakes, no matter what the pitch and regardless of the fact that loose needles are all over it, are not good to walk on. That standoff is jury rigged and could break at any time, changing the setting of the ladder feet.

Choose Your Answer:
A. Whoohooo! It’s Mr Toads Wild Ride!
B. Rubber boots + mossy wooden roof = a cheap & economical Slip & Slide
C. If you squint your eyes, it looks like Fred Flintstone when he rides down that dinosaur’s back
At least he has hearing protection on!

Yo Dan-Man,

Dan how is the stand off jury rigged ? In what way does it affect the feet ?

But he won’t hear his own screams and cussing as he takes the adult version of the slip and slide with the blower running.

:):)

New Member here . I can tell you this that depending how old these shingles are, the shingles can be very brittle. Second, algae on a wood roof is like a water slide.

Hey there Jack,

I pretty much see the same thing, like what Dan said walking on wood shake roves without Korkers is a real Dangerous thing …You can slip real easy and with it this steep it’s a no brainer to not have them on and a safety line.

This roof is dry but being as steep as it is and being wood shake your in major jeopardy !

As Dave Carroll said it is H !

Ryan’s point is a good one, I’d not use a backpack either for the same reason and if you did slip you can let a hand held go, but with a pack your more or less in a different balance realm !

I’ve slipped off a wood shake roof only 12’, and it wasn’t near this steep nor wet…Shattered my tibia plateau like wood getting split…

Should of had on korkers…

I could be dead or a quad or paraplegic, or even a veggie.Instead I have a metal plate and 13 screws in my knee and a cadaver bone from a European dead man in my knee !

I’ll take the repair over the afford mentioned…

But to everyone here please always be safe and think things through before deciding on a calculated risk let alone foolish decisions !

Lack of common sense here. Well, its not my body to break so I guess this guy can continue doing whatever works for him.

I thought that was part of your trick question Dave. Yes these are not Korkers, but I have seen those boots in several local stores and they are significantly better than Korkers. I’ve seen those with some beefy spike in them. Price was $164. I am considering switching to these as my teammates don’t care for korkers.

We read a lot about fellow cleaners falling off roves, it a pretty dangerous environment…Thins can happen to anybody, anytime, anyplace !

It’s part of our work process, no way to avoid it, we will always need to walk on a roof but being wise in our decisions in what and how we do it will cut down our risk…

If you have dragged a hose on a roof be very cognizant of it’s place because stepping on it will send you down !

Metal roves are some of the worse only because they seem just find but dirty and or steep ones will throw your life into turmoil !

Like in the picture wood shakes are killers, wear korker 1/4" korks !

And when ever possible tie off if your able to !

Another roof I walked on was only slightly angled but it was a plastic roof with moss probably one of the slippyest yet !

So Yawl Remember …

so those may have spikes on the soles?

Hey Dave,

Korkers, are you saying he’s wearing korkers…?

Never saw them before looks like he’s wearing just rubber boots…

Whats the brand name ? At what stores are you pointing out ?

Hey Dave how you doing…You hook up with windowcleaning.com yet ?

Anyways he should still be tied off, because those shakes can still fail on you when walking on them !
