I’m sensing you’re being a little sarcastic. you don’t truly believe you can’t clean with cold water do you? Hmmm…I just might have to make a poll. LOL
Hi guys just thought I would add a little more info for you all,
Now there have been people using the ecover and are confused as to why they don’t seem to be getting the same results as others,
Well after several emails from different users of the ecover it has come to my attention that the ones who are not getting the full benefit of the ecover seems to be from cleaners who live in a hard water area! Ecover works to the maximum with soft water!
So if you are having problems you can either use pure water or rain water will do,
Also some are reluctant to add vinegar into the ecover but to be honest you don’t need great amounts and after a while you will hardly notice it
But with the added vinegar even if the windows do get dirty the rain just seems to wash it all off again, the added vinegar seems to make the windows work like a self cleaning glass!
You will notice this overtime!
James.
For me to switch the Ecover is going to have to be used in our hard water (600 tds) or it won’t be replacing my GG4 (designed to deal w/ hard water). It has to be apples to apples in my opinion.
Hi tony why use hard water you do work with pure water dont you! ecover will work in hard water but more soap solution will be needed!
just like gg4 and gg3 gg4 for hard and gg3 for soft,
Have they tried adding baking soda?
Not trying to gang up on Mark, but I have to agree with Dange on this. When it’s cold outside warm/hot water feels pretty good on the hands.
In the winter we don’t have access to pure water since the system is put away. I do use pure when possible but a test is only valid if you are comparing things in the same situation. Since Ecover is being touted as a replacement for GG4 (designed for hard water) the only true test will be to see how it does in hard water.
I kind of shoot from the hip so it shouldn’t be a surprise, but I’ve never heard that - Interesting. Is it designed to treat or prevent hardwater on the glass, or to work in hardwater cleaning the windows?
Justin - GG3 is designed to work w/ soft water while GG4 has softening agents added for use w/ hard (high tds) tap water.
justin gg4 was designed for hardwater areas whereas gg3 for softwater areas alas gg4 has more soap in it.

It is the same for any liquid that you use if you are in a hardwater area then you will have to use more detergant in your bucket than someone in a softwater area, so the agents in gg4 compensate for this.
James - GG4 doesn’t have more soap. It has softening agents. I does have a higher cleaner to water ratio than GG3 so you use more soap. Is that what you meant?
Hi Tony … i live in a hard water area . i used to squirt my GG4 in a 1 liter squeeze bottle containing pure water now i squeeze one squirt of the Ecover in this bottle… so after washing my washer out its then doused with the Pure water ecover mix. so ime putting soft / pure water on my washer… most of the windows get a pre spray with Pure water takes seconds… i have a TDS reading here of i think it was near 300… i found that my windows were staying cleaner when i added pure water ( bottle ) and not tap water… i just load a 10 L container of pure water every day . and take it in the Van with me. my pure water set up is in the basement . and its running pretty much all year …its pretty isolated and mild there and i dont have to worry about burst pipes etc… you should definitely try the Ecover for insides where the sun shines wickedly and use pure water in a bottle like i do…GG4 defo has its advantages and very much too the Ecover… the test now is the glass test . to see which windows stay cleanest… never the less the Ecover definitely has its place in every window cleaners car / van
Regarding the Hot water… Ecover amazingly works with hot water and soft rubber !!! and no streaking or smearing… Cold water does not evaporate quickly in colder months and there fore can leave smearing on metallic / plastic frames frames and so when i do frame cleaning which is 70 % % of my job it has to be warm . hot water . you just cannot get the same results with a cold cloth. but choosing your water temperature is very much personal choice … in summer its cold water… but in colder days its always been hot water tap . the German housewives would slaughter me if they knew i was using cold water… i would say they are more particular in Germany about frame cleaning than any where else on the Planet…
What i forgot to add is i think its quicker using Ecover to do a job than it is GG4… why because it has no dyes and chemicals ( much less than the Gg4 ) it leaves much less smearing and streaks as the GG4… Glass looks visibly perfect !!! really perfect !!!.. this eases your mind and you know you dont have to worry. or back track… it definitely speeds up your job…
So regardless of the results of your work they would still slaughter you?
Yes tony! Thats what i was meaning to say it needs more softening agents in it to perform as it would in soft water areas! but as you say you will still use more gg4 in a hard water area than gg3 in a soft water area!
It won’t matter however since I plan on using the same amount of each cleaner in my test. The dilution I use of GG4 is 1/4 oz per gallon and that is how much Ecover I will use as well.
Honestly Germans are so critical about having things clean… when i go to the Tap they are always there pointing out which way the hot water is on the tap. ( most taps have a blue left for cold and red right for hot ) makes me maddddddd lol and i always reply. yes i know this must be the 2,000 ´th tap i´ve visited this year… and i deliberately change my water for good reasons and also ask them " excuse me HErr / Frau where can i pour this water out " … they are always going on about changing the water… i have one guy who wants me to change for every window… even though i clean him 4 times a year and he lives in the 5th floor with very little dirt… the closer you are to the street the dirtier the windows get.
you mean the hard water in your bucket tony ? wash your washer out in your hard water tony and just pour the pure water / ecover mix over your washer . then your window will be getting softer water and clean water also … the water which comes out of the earth is hard in your area . but the rain which hits the windows after they are cleaned is not. give it a try with pure water in a bottle / GG4 / or with bottle /Ecover
I should think with such a high TDS this must be a must for you applying clean pure water to your washer from a separate bottle rather than throwing dirty hard water back up from your bucket on the windows knowing that as you go from window to window your washer will be getting gradually dirtier… this is what i would do. how do you do it Tony ?
I mix up my solution in my window cleaning bucket then fill a squeeze bottle that I use to apply the solution to my strip washer. This will be the way I do my test w/ separate strip washers for each cleaner.
With the frequency of posting over there you may have to wait a long time.
