Anybody want to share an image of your invoices?

I call them the add-on-guy, or gal…

I thought putting on my sheet “while you’re up there” add-on service.

I’ve seen mechanic bills put on shop towels fee.

That might be really useful.

  • $10 bathroom mirror cleaned
  • $50 minimum fee for Chandeliers
  • $60 minimum fee for Gutters
  • $25 minimum fee for Whileurupthere

I just might add that to my next batch of brochures.

Oh yeah, literally word for word. I’ve done that for gutter cleaning.
Even though we are technically lower than roofline.

Maybe it should be vice-versa.

I don’t know how you get 10 bucks for a mirror but more power to you. I guess it’s all in presentation. Word it right and people will bite. If it’s easy and I like the person I just throw it in…

I had some chincy coupon, I called the “While We’re Up There Special.”

It worked.

But I grew bored of the 'dotted coupon cutout" graphic just and never went back to it.

Its funny… I get the feeling when people want me to add on services they want me to still do it at the quoted price.

Yeah while your there just do that…
Tatta… Tatta… It always seems to be the really wealthy people that just say… Ohhh. Yeah while your there just go ahead and do that… Yeah sure.

Yeah, I usually just throw it in, unless it’s a bathroom covered floor to ceiling with mirrors everywhere. But I probably COULD get $10 per mirror because it’s the one thing all the ladies go absolutely crazy over.

That’s the problem. In engineering it’s called “feature creep.” I don’t mind doing a couple of regular mirrors, but I’m not going to take down and dust your pottery collection or vacuum that tapestry you have hanging way up in your living room.

That’s ‘the thing…’
It’s an add on. It doesn’t make/break you if they bite or NOT.

  • if they don’t go for it, your days is still the same, all good.
  • but when THEY DO…

Shit, an add on may actually be something you already DO.
Add-on’s are your friend.

That’s another reason why I added miscellaneous add-on; I would often forget to charge for something. Last fall, I cleaned a client’s glass cabinet and glass shelf for their artwork. $35 I forgot to charge.

Man I find my day is pretty packed. To add on another job just puts me out… Time to hire I guess??

Right… I get what your saying… Add on… Key word, add on…

I swear, I was just thinking about editing my post with
“but, you need to be in a position to accept on the fly, work.”

Which is pretty much my mantra.
I always want to be in… “Always Seeking Work Mode.”
[see Jfromthed’s previous threads/posts for details]

Right… I’m finding in this business it pays to be adaptable…

I hope you don’t mind if I make an observation/suggestion: “You can’t please everyone.”

What I mean by that, is there are some people who will get bent out of shape over a little misunderstanding, because they’re half baked or simply flakey, and then try and put it on you for not making it easier for them. Obviously, as business owners, we want to limit these types of misunderstandings as much as possible, but honestly, how many times are you going to go to a walkthrough where the homeowner is high? It sounds like the way you currently have your invoices is a real pain for both you and your wife. Is it really worth the hassle for the possibility that you’re going to run into a similar situation someday?

What I would suggest, is maybe simplifying your invoice to make it easier for you and your partner. But then have a notes section for any exclusions or special considerations. And the section for add-ons was a great idea, btw.

Just my humble opinion

With the add on service, would you say something like, normally it would cost $150 but as I’m already here I can do it for $80. Would that be the basic conversation?
