My sister and brother-in-law just opened a Subway in our town. New building with a fair number of windows. Of course I told her I was starting with window washing in spring…she says do them! No price was given, but I’m a newbe so it’s gonna be fair to her I’m thinking.
Just wondering if there are any washers doing Subways?
Yes it is Chris. It’s been a dream of hers for years so she just went for it. It’s been a year in the making so she feels real good that the doors are finally open. She spent a few weeks on NY for training, she had alot of fun getting it going.
At this point Dan, with the amount of money they spent building a Subway from the ground up she wants it to look and perform to it’s full potential. Clean windows are a must for her.
I clean a few of them they can be good accounts. Make sure you tell them not to spray their degreaser on their windows. When they are cleaning the tables they should spray on the rag then wipe tables. The degreaser they use leaves spots when it dries on the windows and it is very hard to get off. I believe it is butyl based.
We do 5 of them. They are consistently done every two weeks… However as was mentioned, it seems all have super tight budgets. And as Chris C. said they have some of the toughest grease on the planet lol
We clean 7 Subways windows here in South Carolina. They are a franchised restuarant. We charge $1.25 per window inside and outside. Subway charges the owner 12.5% in fees and they have to purchase ALL of their products from Subway. So their profit margin is very low. We clean these windows every 2 weeks. Once you get 1 Subway it becomes easier to pick up more through word of mouth. Reading the other responses we have not come across grease on windows from doing Subways. Subway owners have a owners meeting once or twice a year. Have you sister place you business cards on the display table at that meeting and refer you to the other Subway owners.
About 4 years ago I gave a proposal to the local owner of 6 stores here. One of the managers saw me working and stopped me to tell me the details and ask for a bid. They were paying a local low-ball company $25 per store but hate his service. My price was $55 or $60 per store - I can’t remember exactly. It would have taken me about 30 minutes per store. Since I don’t covet restaurant work, it didn’t matter to me if I got them or not so I bid them at a healthy rate. I think they were shocked and they never called back. I honestly don’t think they would have even paid $40 though. It was a situation where the store managers wanted a change but the owner didn’t want to spend extra money. Four years later their windows still look terrible.
Wow, that seems really low. How do you afford to pay employees and/or gas and drive time? Isn’t that less than $30/store? I really want to get into commercial in AZ but couldn’t afford to have an employee work under those conditions. Am I wrong about those numbers?
Thanks
Scott
We do a few also.
That grease is HORRIBLE !!!
AND all the managers around here pay out of pocket to get em cleaned .
Hard to believe my brother worked in the FIRST subway in Milford ct, MANY MANY MOONS ago (before they franchised…)
