Buy Resign or Pure Water, tank, and pump with pole?

What would you do?

My service area average TDS = 200ppm

I would burn through resign like no tomorrow with DI only.

So, What do I need to do the job right?

My first thought in cost savings and a way to get the ball rolling was to by a 200 gallon tank and put it on my trailer. Go to the Water Purification outlets and have them fill it. Then install a pump that would push it through the pole.

This way I never have to leach off a clients water supply. This would reduce the discord of WFP usage with the client because I am not using their water. Plus it would be faster than having to set up and get started when I could just pull the hose to the back of the house and get started. Not having to run a supply hose and all that jazz.

48" x 48" 500 Gallon Tank = $100
ReachiT Mini = $699 Maybe $1099 wit XT
Pump = $50

Water = $1.25 per 5 gallons
200 Gallons = $50

To get started anyway. Then after recouping some of my initial investment. (About 200 gallons later) I can have this RO system installed in my garage to refill the tanks at night.

What do you think?

Well my tds is a little lower here 130-160, I only have a 10 liter DI unit and resin lasts me 4-6 months depending on use( I use it on ever house). I buy a 25 liter bag of resin cost me about $180 delivered( Australian prices are probably higher than you have.) So I get 2 fills and 5 liters left over of the bag so that makes it around $80 every 4-6 months to fill. I also have a 100 liter tank I fill at home that does maybe 2 houses.

$50 for 200 gallons of water seems quite high also a 500 gallon tank, also if that was full thats around 1850kg or 4000 lbs. that is a lot to tow around.
Idk how fast you would burn thru resin maybe others could chime in about that I wouldn’t think 70-40 ppm difference would be that much of an increase from what I use.

I just bought 2, 1 cu ft Di tanks 1 reach it mini $1350. My tds is 150-350 depending on area I’m in. Run cost/hr is 1.5-3.50/hr I will be saving money from each job to buy 2, 4x40 ro filters to attach one to each tank that way I save on resin and have a second set up when I get second crew going.

Since you have a trailer you can mount the system in it use hose reels and with lots of hose for pole and 300 ft of water hose so you can connect from wherever you park.

Only customers with water well don’t like you to use the wfp we just do them by hand

If you go down the pump delivery route from a tank, I would suggest you also consider a pump controller. The controller can manage the pump and help reduce the water usage. If the job requires .5 GPM at the glass then it is more efficient to have the pump produce 0.5 GPM the controller can also monitor battery volts, stop the pump when you stop flow and reduce strain on the Hose connectors and pump.

The following article will give more information re pump control. WFP Systems and efficient flow control

If money isn’t an issue. Which it doesn’t seem like :). And you have room for tank. 100% yes

I have a 200 gallon tank on a closed 2500 express van, with a shurflo pump and pump controller. It is a sweet set up. Btw there will be very few jobs that you will need that amount of water. FYI I usually used 1/4 to 1/2 of the 200 gallon capacity on large jobs. My tds average either at home or on the road is between 150 to 200 tds. Sometimes a bit more. I use the wash-iT pro and it brings the tds down to 14 tds then I polish it with resin down to 0 tds. I filled the canister close to 10 months ago and still getting 0 tds from that batch. Btw is the canister that comes with the wash it pro. With this setup I can bring water anywhere, and if client is good people and you go the xtra mile with the cleaning, frames well done, shutters, screens then I plug to their water and replenish my tank as I work. Wash it pro has same me big time.

I copied this chart from another post for you: I believe the #'s are based on a 1cf tank. So for 200 tds, if your flow is 1-1.5 gpm you get 17 - 25 hours of run time. If your average house is 1 - 1.5 hours on the outside, that’s an average of 20 - 30 houses. That’s with the water constantly flowing. At $200 for a cf of resin. So 7-10 dollars per house.

TDS (Total Dissolve Solids) vs. Expected gallons of Pure Water:

TDS --------------------Gallons

50 -------------------- 6,024

100 -------------------3,012

200 -------------------1,506

300 -------------------1,004

400 -------------------752

500 -------------------602

600 -------------------502

700 -------------------430

800 -------------------376

900 -------------------334

1, 000 --------------- 302

Translating to time

Depending on incoming water pressure your tank will produce about 1 gallon of water per minute.
Following this chart if your incoming TDS is 50 that will produce approximately 6,024 gallons of water or
about 6,000 minutes of waterfed pole work. (100 hours)

I have a very similar setup except I run a 100 gal tank. And I can do a whole house no problem with just about 50% full. If I have two or three houses I fill it up most of the way. Here’s a couple pics.

Rent a tank

What?

Rent a DI Tank, its more convenient than owning a tank and swapping resin… I rent my tanks monthly and I pay a fee to swap for a fresh one.

I read liter and thought gallon. Thinking I will need 100 gallons of water per 2 houses averaging 3,600 sq ft

The cost is much higher for the pure water filtered for you route. That is for sure.

So should I get the Pole and DI Tank? Thats it?

I am thinking somewhere around 300 ft of feeder house. What size hose do I need? I need a return hose too? What about chemicals?

You guys make it sound so simple but when you look at buying gear there are so many differing set ups that are so damned expensive. So how is it as simple as a DI tank, a TDS meter, some hose, a brush. 2 Pencil Jets and two Fan Jets. Right?

Where abouts would one go rent a DI tank? I have a feeling you are going to tell me to GTS… (Google That S#&t)

Easy… Were usually good about helping ppl here… I can speak for most…

Um, Try a local Culligan or any water treatment center near you…

Thanks bro.

Yeah… I was going to go there to get the water for the tank until I calculated cost.

i would get a ro di system to lower your cost to produce pure water. the ro will bring your tds to 15-20 tds and the resin will polish it to 000. the set up cost more up front but will save you in resin recharge cost. right now i have 2 di tank when the first tank reaches 10-14 i will connect the second tank. as long as my first tank brings the tds to 50-100 tds my second tank will bring it to 000 but will last much longer then my first tank will. the solution, save some money from every cleaning and add a 4x40 ro tube to my resin tank, creating a super sized wash it pro system.

How much does it cost to rent a tank

Look at this sexy tank…

Hmmmm… Niiiiiiicccceeee…
