My question is for you guys out there with sales people. How many leads should a salesperson make a day working six hours a day? What percent per job do you pay your sales people.

60-80 calls a day is what you should expect. But…there is a lot that comes before that part. Your going to need a developed training and lead generation system to support those cold calls (Which is probably the worst way to go because your just playing numbers instead of a solid system)
Heres the thing you should be focusing on before you worry about how many leads your getting. What kind of follow up plan does your sales person have? If all their doing is calling different phone numbers everyday, yes their going to land some leads, but your wasting your time if you don’t have a follow up plan for that person. Cold calling is a GREAT way to generate business, just have a system in place to make it effective. Let me know if you need help doing this.
I definitely need help with making a effective follow up system. My plan was to do the estimates after the salesman gets my foot In the door. I’m not sure if this is the best way but I figured at least the owner would be doing the estimate. I have always done residential work and have close to 300 clients. But we need commercial work for winter months to keep us busy. I really appreciate everyone’s help.

Check out BidSlot. They make cold calls for to and set up appointments for commercial and or residential. Sounds like something you are looking for.

A system doesn’t have to be complicated. Regardless of a mailing, flyer, or call there are only a few steps to break down.
To be effective you will want multiple channels working together in order to generate the results. Even with multiple campaigns you can still easily justify the results for each type.

Hi, my names chris I clean windows in London United Kingdom, I am a residential cleaner & have a couple of shops here & there. Over here it is hard work to earn money in shops. My clients are of a wealthy background. I have had my customers for over 12 yrs & are all gained by recommendations, my cleaning is of a very high standard 2nd to none, I am known by many window cleaners as very fussy. I am not a glass cleaner I am a window cleaner, I clean not only the glass, sills frames the whole window. I clean once a month. I do not over price work unless I do not wish to clean it. I never miss a window, all customers are treated equal. I very rarely have to return to collect my pay. & I only loose clients when they pass away or move homes then tend to get the new owners. 1st cleans are always cost more, b,cos I can get them looking new again.

hadji, Hi Chris, welcome to the forum
This is foreign to me. I don’t like cold calling, nor do I trust a business cold calling. I have been with a client while another company cold called, and claimed they were her window cleaners and wanted to get her on the schedule. It was complete BS and an under handed way of doing business. The client was not happy about this either. The owner of that company happened to be a previous President of the IWCA and is a member of WCR community. Needless to say, he wasn’t well received amongst the other window cleaners in our area. Under cutting everyone else was another tactic of his. There are better ways to get new clients.
That is definitely a bad way of doing business. First thing I ask is if they have a window cleaner. If the answer is yes then I say thank you for your time. Have a great day. I can’t even fathom a business owner of a professional company doing this. That being said. If we didn’t have people like that we wouldn’t stand out as the best. So I always enjoy my customer rants about other company’s if you listen to them you actually come out knowing what your customers want and expect. A wise man learns from others mistakes.

exactly.
How exactly do you go about getting commercial accounts? Or any other for that matter. I have always felt the same way you guys do that’s why I do 90% resi work and very few commercial. Eddm has always been my bread winner. After referrals of course.

Chris I thought you were starting to build a route this year…maybe I’m mistaken.
It sounds like window cleaners in the USA have a hard time keeping their clients. I very rarely take on new clients b’cos I have to many as it is, 90% of my clients have been with me for 13yrs the 10% they have been clients 5yrs & over.

I dont think we have any more issues with keeping customer then any other window cleaning company has any where else in the world…
customers are the same know matter where they are.
Treat the customers and their property with respect and they will become long term customers.
Possibly… not 100% sure on that yet
woo i though i was making stuff up in my head…thanks for clarifying it LOL!
