DIY Pump box/booster pump box

Works great. With the RO I thought it might build up pressure and sputter on and off but not so. Stays on with the pure water open, shuts on and off slowly with pure closed since RO waste is still flowing.

Hopefully that sloppy diagram is legible. The speed controller was marked with power and motor + and - already so that helped.

As far as the hose is concerned, pro grade rubber garden hose is a little bit cheaper (by the foot) than poly hose. I know it will be fine for water, but do you guys think it would hold up all right if I used it with PW chems occasionally?

Here’s a shot of the guts. I just realized I shot that in portrait, oh well.

Thank you. That’s super helpful!!

Thanks Ben!
That speed controller was exactly what I was looking for, ordered up a pair of them.

Thanks to all the help from you guys, I finished my pump box today!

Here are the pictures of mine. I also took some shots of the switch and the control board to go along with some of your earlier posts, Lavage and Caleb.

You can’t really tell from the last photo, but those drain holes are directly under the fittings. The idea is that if there ever is a leak, the water will go straight out of those holes first. That would prevent damage to the motor and reveal leaks quickly.

Hi Ben thank you for this post… I was wondering if you can give me some details about the electrical part since I got no clue or if you can direct me to another post with the info… what type of fuses should I be looking for; What is a bettery quick connect; Can I buy a water pump at lets say 100psi and 1gpm and control the outpu of the water with the speed controller; What does the speed controller control…the psi or the gpm; any help will be appreciated. Billy

The speed control will control the pump speed, which will also affect gpm AND psi (if I’m not mistaken) If I were you, I would not depart at all from the list he has posted. There is another thread about this, and between the two you will be able to set it up in a jiffy. (Sorry, I’m not tech savvy enough to post the link to the thread for you, but I’ll see what I can do!)

Thanks for that awesome list and video Ben!

That battery really runs 5 hours with the pump? I’ve been looking at all kinds of calculators and to run a 12 AMP motor most say I need a 50AH battery. I really don’t want to add that much more weight to the cart along with the hose real, charger and RO/DI stuff.

Does anyone know if the digital controllers are more beneficial and if so can anyone link me to one that I could use?

Awesome built, thanks Ben!

Can that battery really run 5 hours on a charge? Every calculator I’ve looked at said I’d need a 50AH battery to do that with a 12 AMP draw.

Can anyone recommend a digital controller or are those not that beneficial?

Glad you could benefit from it. Yes, it will last at least 5 hours on 100% power. But that’s more power than you need. Full power works well when boosting, you could even back off a bit. When using as a supply pump I use less than 50% power or there’s too much pressure it’ll splash. That’s running through 100’ of pole hose and through 2 gardiner pencil jets. You should be able to get a long day out of an 18ah battery doing just about anything with it.
