door2door

I’d not be mad IF they did not try to SELL me something.

I’d respond well to a nice introduction with no asking for business. hand me a card…give me the free estimate and move on.

God will strike you down!:stuck_out_tongue:

Interesting view point. I for one would be annoyed if they DIDN’T try to sell me something. I mean honestly, If they are taking the time, energy and courage to go door to door, why would they puss out and not ask for my business? I would think they are an idiot for not trying to close the deal. This of course is my opinion, speaking as one who used to be a sales manager (for door to door sales). If somebody asked me for my business and I didn’t want what they had to offer I would say “no thanks” and give them props for trying. If they came to my door, bothered me and then didn’t even ask for my business I would think they were retarded for wasting their energy. Just my opinion, realizing others may disagree.

Wow…I must admit I wish I had that view.

Holy cow…I am stunned and…well…often i edit my own posts as i write. but after reading that I thought maybe it wise for me to simply type…and allow my true feeling(s0 about this issue be exposed.

I would like to reserve the right to explore your thinking…and how you got there…at some later time.

geez what a different point of view I sooooooo envy.

I now wonder which one of us…all variable being equal…would advance giving the same arena in which to do our thing.

wow…might go back on meds tonight. That is onehelluva jolt.

the way I see it, if you ask for their business the WORST that could happen is they get ****ed and say no, and you move on to the next door. Best case, they are happy because they finally found a good window cleaner and don’t have to roll the dice so to speak by choosing one out of the yellow pages, so they are happy. and you are happy because you make some $$$

If you DON’T ask for their business the worst case scenario would be the same as above, and at BEST they MIGHT call you later, but honestly probably not, they will forget you were there 10 minutes after your gone.

There truly are alot of people out there who WANT a good window cleaner, but don’t know where to find one, THESE people will be happy when they meet you, and they are the ones that make knocking worth it.

I don’t think anybody will actaully get mad if you just introduce yourself and give a card and stuff, people will still be nice for the most part. I just feel you’d be doing yourself a diservice by not asking for their business.

So what if they get mad!

Remember… numbers game. For every person that gets all twisted, there are three that don’t care. They are out there looking wishing they had clean windows, but don’t know where to start.

Who cares if they get mad?

Who cares if they don’t like you?

The ones that don’t get mad and do like you are the ones putting money in your pocket. TOTALLY DISREGARD the rest. Why waste your energy on those fools anyway?

Just my experience.

They’re fools for not wanting to be one of your numbers?

Doesn’t sound like very conclusive research. CFP?

what?

I am confused.

yeah, mad was probably the wrong word for me to use, I would be confused though, and I would think they had wasted their time.

by my comment or larry’s comment? I didn’t get larrys comment at all

True – it’s a numbers game. What counts is both the number you contact and the number you gain as customers.

You state (jokingly?) that fools say no to you when you contact them at a time that is inconvenient to them. They might be numbers in the positive column if you possibly contacted them at a different time. Apparently, you are not doing that (or, we haven’t read about that type of follow-up.)

There is little data you can collect on those that say no at an inconvenient time (except that it was an inconvenient time.)

thats a good point, I’ve always wondered that, infact I had a lady call me the other day to clean her windows from a mailer she got. I actually knocked on her door a year or so ago, at a bad time (kids running around screaming and stuff). After talking to her she said she didn’t even remember me stopping by. Would she have accepted the estimate if it had been a better time? who knows, interesting to think about.

Ok… Where to begin?.?.?.?

The usage of the word “fools” is an issue of semantics. If I could rephrase I would use the word “people”.

As in…

“Who cares about those people anyway.”

No where did I say be rude to those people. So yes, you could walk down the very same street and talk to the very same people and close a job because, “it’s a convenient time.”

What are the odds??? Slim

Here is the point

If I walk up to a door thinking it may be a bad time. It’s gonna be a bad time.

Self Fulfilling Prophecy

If I go down a street and talk to 10 people there are gonna be people that say this is a bad time. Or have attitude because you are interrupting whatever. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is. PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT. Everyone is on different schedules. Hence… there is no perfect time.

Don’t worry about what they think of you.

Go to each door like it’s your first. Be polite even if they are not. Knock on 100 doors and you’ll get 20 estimates. Out of 20 estimates you should get 5 jobs.

Disclaimer: The numbers just mentioned are an average. Results may vary. Your price, marketing material, appearance, attitude, etc. add way too many variables to peg exact numbers.

My bad for the looooooong post.

TRUE DAT! Not alot of people think like that, but those who do tend to be far more successful in life. why? because what you said is TRUE. we largely get what we expect in life and what we focus on, have you read Think and Grow Rich?

.

Napolean Hill is an awesome author.

ahh, Think and Grow Rich is great! If we followed those principles we would all live far different lives… but nobody does. Kinda weird huh?

anywho as to d2d. I hate it and I will never do it, but it works as well as fliers or postcards (unless we factor in the time it takes, then it is a huge loser), but percentage wise- it works.

If we have trouble creating (or can’t afford to create) good marketing materials d2d trumps all. Build a cache of money to advertise other ways, but DO SOMETHING!

If we are not acting upon, we are reacting to. (usually we are reacting to all the self implanted road blocks like some talked about in this thread)

Instead of taking weeks to decide where we should stand, how to smell, what should we say… take a week doing it and answer all those questions.

It is a tough way to sell and I respect anyone who goes out there and goes toes to toes with people.

Yo CFP/Paul

D2D has a about a 85%(in my business) return rate while flyers and postcards only have a 1% return rate

Why are you against going D2D?

Paul’s response the last time you mentioned that 85% number:
