Please help im A 32 year old mom stuck in a call center job making change and i want to start my own window cleaning service but im a bit nervous cause i only see guys doing it and i dont know the florida market HELP PLEASE thank you
Highly seasonal here in SW Florida. And though wealthy customers abound, there are many cleaners with low prices and decent service that cheapen the market. Not that you can’t get top dollar for residential cleaning, but you have to
A.) Build a ton of value in your service
And B.) Really not care if you lose a string of bids due to price
The commercial market is much less competitive than residential, but there is a higher barrier to entry (insurance minimums and equipment/crews for 3+ stories)
Which area are you in?
I’m on the East coast of Florida and for years I did a few storefronts p/t in addition to my FT job. However, I lost my FT job in June and have been working on going FT with window cleaning. I actually really enjoy doing it. I’m in my 50’s and am determined to make it work. So, to start FT I have been getting additional equipment, insurance, materials, “studying”, knocking on doors, etc. in order to target residential. I do not have a client list per se but am working at it every day. I do believe however, personally, with great effort and prayer I… and anyone serious can make it.
Let me make a suggestion get this book, it is a road map if you follow it you will succeed.

Well good on you. I believe @apkwindows is out in your area
My wife has been cleaning windows for over 25 years, you can do it
wow thank you that means the world
Lots of women are successful window cleaners/business owners. My wife is very successful at supervising me
Where at in FL?
oh wow thanks imma keep that in mind when i get out there
Don’t let that stop you. Before having our own businesss, I worked with just as many girls as guys in the different window cleaning companies I worked for. So you’re in Daytona? Do you have any experience? Are you thinking of doing houses or businesses or both?
main thing is not to delay starting. its too easy to think BUT what if, AND …what if and next thing youv got cold feet about the idea .
it doesnt have to be a huge fanfare start-small steps and all that, - but you gotta start soon as
good luck!
hey and thank you i live in deltona but i will work in Daytona i have absolutely no experience but i bought supplies already.i will do both ill even clean a business if they want
thankyou
If you are doing this just for the money with no experience at all or no knowledge of the industry, I would say you are setting yourself up for failure. I don’t mean to be the Debbie downer, but realistically, most people that start their own business in this industry have enough experience to be efficient enough to make it work.
All the best though.
thanks im not gonna quit my day job just doing on side i do have experience
cleaning so i am also offering cleaning services for homes and offices.
Window cleaning takes a relative amount of skill. If you really want to clean glass, I would advise you to concentrate on that. Get VERY good at what you do. It’s better to be a “master” at something, then be a jack of all trades, and a master of none.
Especially since this is a “side” gig for you.
