I’m thinking about upgrading to the new smart clamps for my slx-30. Has anyone switched over from the old clamps or are you using a gardiner pole with the smart clamps .
Is it worth it to switch clamps ?
what is your opinion with theses clamps if your using them ?
Hey Mike.
I have a CLX 18’, a CLX 27’, and an Xtreme 44’, all with Smart Clamps. I have had the CLX poles for about 2 years, and the Xtreme for coming up on a year. I have never had the slightest bit of trouble with them. The Delrin shims make the action super smooth and easy and they stay put where you set them. Very occasionally do I have to retighten them a turn or two, like maybe once a month or so. I can’t say enough good things about them. I have read on the forum that some people complain that they come off and have to be reglued. All I can guess is that those people must have allowed the sections to smash down against the clamps when collapsing the pole. I always close my pole carefully and have never had any issues. I never tried the old style clamp, so I can’t compare, but I can’t imagine that you will be disappointed if you decide to upgrade.
Hope this helps.
All the best.

Thanks Simon,
Good info, I wanted to hear some good things about these clamps before I do all the work that it takes to switch them out . The old clamps are a pain always have to adjust them . It would be worth it to change them out after hearing what your experience is with them. I will he ordering them tommorrow.
Thanks

Use theGardiner original epoxy you can get it from CF supplies. Gardiner canada. The only place as far as I know to get this epoxy which is black to match the pole. And does a better, less goopy job that the marine grade epoxy from Home Depot which is white and thicker and less spreadable than Gardiners 2part epoxy. The job is easy. Make sure to clean the inside of the clamp with alcohol while the epoxy is wet or it will feel sticky for a while

I’ve used marine grade from the depot. And. The gardiner approved from CF supplies. And the latter is much better. Both changes I made were 2years ago and have held up well, in both cases the damaged clamps came from dropping the pole. So now if I m not using the pole I lower it in all cases

I guess that’s original question I haven’t used the smart clamps a second set of clamps a couple years ago and when I need them so I haven’t used the new ones

But I always thought the originals or the bees kneesthey’re just great

After four years of wear on my SLX 30 pole I’m noticing it odd wear pattern on the first section where it’s thinner at the top and it is at the bottom and needs to be adjusted more often

I don’t replace the tape stop stopsI find I don’t need to because I know the pole so well it never comes apart
Sent from my iPad using Window Cleaning Resource
That could be dangerous though on the taller pole or with the operator that isn’t really familiar with the pole all because if The polecomes apart and it’s fully a very tall pole it could be a problem

The poll is easier to clean without the tapes stops

As for the discussion of gardener poles on residential work use of a swivel flocked blush will cut your work time by 25% , Your water used by 50% or 50% increase the quality work Due to increased accuracy . Also this new pad/scraper tool has a great second use. Try it!

There’s an addition great use for this scraper. Because of the angle. Strength. And the knubs that hold the pads, this tool is able to raise AND LOWER half screens on replacement windows from the ground. Before pushing them up was easy but lowering them impossible from the ground. This greatly increased speed and safety on many jobs

I’ve never seen clamps that look so effortless in closing, like butter. That smooth action makes me really want to try these, never used them yet.

I have a four-year-old SLX 30 which is done tremendously well over the course of his life and I have a brand-new SLX 30 very I got inexpensively on sale last winter and is unused. I think I’m going to sell the unused one and buy a new SLX 30 with the smart clamps I am in the situation described in the video with a four-year-old pole which is wearon the top of the first andsecond sections that makes a difference on the clamp point at the bottom of the first and second such as which means I have to adjusted the clamp on sections 1 and 2. From closed position to extended. This is in the last 2 months of a 4 year flawless run with this Gardiner pole. I can’t say enough good things about it, especially the the swivel resineck. For residential work. The rinse withthis is dead accurate resulting in no overspray and splash back on the glass causing water spots I have 4 brands of poles in my truck and almost always use the Gardener, because of the swivel. And the flocked brush bristle density also causes less un intended overspray. Resulting in better work. The lifespan of the flocked. Brushes I prefer has been exceptionally long. I swapped one out last year after 3 years and put it on a 90 degree gooseneck for use on skylights. But comparing the 2, there’s almost no wear on the original one. I think the flocked( flagged) brush cleans the best by far because of the density, but you must rinse off the glass with it. I only do residential. And use the swivel all the time, it may not be the first choice for buildings glass which is just a single angle all day and you want maximum ridgitity.
I would use my other poles more if they had swivel brush s. But they don’t. So I break out the unger on ranch houses with no angles, but I always run into at least one situation where I need an angle and have to rinse off of true to the glass and splash all on the walls. And gets spots and have to redo that one. I use the 21 Unger aluminum as a beater pole when I’m slamming through trees or roofs or on old crappy paint I have my first really cheap ionic 35 which is really heavey. I use it for washing houses and gutters. The weight helps there. Pure water washes houses really we’ll by the way. Especially green algae my reach it mini spins and won’t clamp right. I don’t use it at all. It’s in my shed also the handle on it is too wide and hurts my hand. Basically the swivel resineck has me choose the Gardiner 98% of the time
