Any thoughts on Home Advisor. Contacted by them today, wondering if it’s worth it.
Ok, now I know why I found nothing with my search here. They used to be service magic.
Yup lol
I wonder why they switched names? They still rank high with new domain

Probably because of all the contractors talking smack about them.
I personally will NEVER use them.
I’ve used them in the beginning and got tired of scheduling just to receive a call back 5 minutes later to let me know they got a cheaper price.

Service magic used to work a lot better. Home advisor has gotten a little sleezy imo…
wws… aside from what everyone says about HomeAdvisor and service magic i will give u my personal experience. I had asked 3 friends that have companies here in San Diego and they all told me Never use them and its a waste of time and money. Now i highly considered their advice but then i decided i am an entreprenuer and my business isnt ran off their thoughts and advice and part of being a business owner is trial and error. Test the waters and see whats up. Now it also depends on where you are in business. if you are super slow and not really bringing in new customers and you have a bit of time on your hands i say its for you. i started with a budget of like $100 per month and increased it after i seen results. Now i cant really say what i added to my business this last year (from may to Dec) but its a bit over $10,000 now take it i offer pressure washing, rain gutter cleaning, and screen service in addition to my window cleaning but if you land a handful of leads that you turn into repeat customers on a quarterly basis you can be profitable. Now there is a few tricks to landing more than 50% of the jobs and trust me i been pretty damn good at it but inbox me or call me up and i will spill all i know to help you out. Now i completly understand why people feel the way they do about them. but if you are trying to build up a new customer base and increase exposure i would say give it a shot. What would my business look like if i had listened to my competitors? hmm…
$10,000+ less through my bank and myself walking taller…

I agree that someones trash is anothers treasure.
It can work out for you if you come into it with the right set of expectations. I think on their end, as a service to you (the window cleaner) they need to deliver on what they say they will, if they do and the price is right then I dont see why not.
me personally I wouldnt join service magic, they are not very big in my area to begin with.
We do swimming pool renovations and that is what the majority of our serv magic work was for. Last year we spent 1246.00 on leads and brought in 26,541.00 worth of revenue. We had it set up for WC and PW last year too. This year I turned that off. It was not bringing the type of customers I was looking for.
I’ve been with the company about 2 years. I think it switched to home advisor sometime late last year. When I started with them it was great. My company was newer, I had a lot more time, didn’t mind driving across town for a bid, and my price for services was much lower then it is now. Marketing wise, I’m really willing to try anything for a while to see if it works. It got to the point where keeping the service on was costing me $ cause I wasn’t getting back to the calls. Leads go to 5 providers now, instead of 3 like it used to be. I dunno, I’m just kinda over it.
on a positive note, one of our largest Resi jobs ever came from sm. I paid $8 for a gutter cleaning lead, ended up closing a total of $3100 in roof cleaning/windows/gutters and ivy removal. Great job, and I never would have gotten it without sm. ill still use em for snow removal.
How many leads was that? I get it if you don’t wanna share here…just curious. For high ticket items like renovations it is worth it to blow through a handful of BS leads cuz one good one can really pay for itself… At least that’s my guess.
Right around 75. We did the biggest we landed at 8 grand. The rest were mostly 3-4 thousand dollar projects. Got a few clients for wc and pw that turned out great. Our prices were to high for most of the leads though.
There are pros and cons with this, as well as any other promotional campaign. Some guys have success with HA and some don’t. Why not give it a try for 6 months? Words of caution: Don’t focus on the number of leads that didn’t convert into jobs; focus on the cash flows in and out. For example, after 6 months if it has cost you $300 in lead fees but you made $3000 in revenue from those leads, you had a 10:1 Return on Investment(ROI). Everyone has a different expectation for ROI for their promotions. It has been mentioned quite a few times on the forum that an acceptable ROI for EDDM is 3:1. Some guys want 10:1. Long story short, as long as you are making a profitable return on the campaign, and you are happy with the money you’re making for the effort, then it is “worth” it to you.
My concern after researching is that I’m not the lowest priced in my area. I don’t want to pay for leads when they are giving 4 other people the same lead that have lower prices.
Do people only choose you when you are the lowest price?
Why else would one get 5 different quotes

Maybe to compare value? I go head-to-head with lower priced companies all the time and win a good amount of them. Why should home advisor be any different?
Because I’m paying for that lead. More so than I would otherwise. I’ll go head to head with anyone about value, win some lose some, not a problem. But I’m gonna get mad if I drop money on that lead and lose it.
It’s no different than spending money on direct mail and 99% of them NOT calling you. I lose some but win more than my share as well. You won’t know unless you try it.
