Just saw a Residential Window Cleaning Groupon for my area

Just saw a local window cleaning company offering a Groupon. They were charging $75.00 for up to 25 windows and $90.00 for up to 40 windows. I charge $10.00+ per window and thought, what the heck. Can they possibly be making money??

nope

$75 for 25 and $90 for 40 isn’t even proportionate

without accounting for groupon’s take, that comes out to an annualized $19.76 - $14.82 per payroll hour to run a business, you decide.

using the simple number book formula and salary cap, that means someone is getting paid $5.92 - $4.45 per hour as a wage, that’s less than minimum wage! to do the field work, the owner may get another $4-$5 per hour on top of that for all the admin, finance, marketing and ceo work he should be doing.

oh yeah, and Groupon gets there cut out of the gross revenue so it’s way less than what i’ve outlined

is this guy making any money? anyone?
Obviously he hasn’t done his homework, he could make more flipping burgers at mc d at min wage

Isn’t Groupon cut 50% for their cut? and there is people out there wondering why some businesses fail.

I’ve seen a couple cleaning businesses use Groupon and go out of business. I have a few friends who are owners use Groupon and not one of them would ever do it again or recommend it.

A good friend who owns a business in Ontario sent me an email about some “company” in her area who recently ran a groupon-like deal for clean up to a 2,500 sq.ft. home for $49.00. 80 something deals were sold. The owner then started soliciting independent cleaners, saying she was way too busy and she wanted to give accounts away. The “offer” to these cleaners is that they go and clean a customers home for free one time, then leave their contact information and - if the customer likes what they did - the cleaner will have a repeat customer from then on and can charge whatever they like.

Can you believe that?? At best, that is outright fraud.

Hi David! It’s Sue from Extremely Clean. Been hanging out here cuz window cleaning business is up some this year. This is a good forum too.

What do most window cleaner charge per window. I know it changes what part of the US your in. I’m in WI. I’m also new to all this still working on getting everything up and runing

Hey, Sue, good to see ya! I don’t want to hijack this thread, but it really does seem to be a good place here with good folks. They’ve already helped me out with some problem commercial windows. Send me a mail or call sometime and let me know how you’re doing.

10 Per window, what part of SC are you from?
is that So Cal or South Cak?

I’ve done it, and would recommend it.

But I would recommend extreme caution.

My opinion is that Groupon is radioactive.

If you harness it correctly, it can be very powerful. If you mishandle it, you blow yourself up.

Generally, in the $8-12 range for residential.

One less competitor, thats how I see it at least.

Groupon called me yesterday, i kindly asked them to take my name off the list.

Ok here is a question since the Groupon thing has been coming up more and more often.

What percentage do you think is fair for Groupon to take? 50%? 40%?

You don’t have a choice, they tell you what the percentage is, it’s 50% ( actually just under 50%) the seller gets the slightly higher percentage. You have some say in the amount they charge for the deal, the amount of windows in the deal and the number (cap) of deals offered.

Look, you people are not doctors and this is a bad economy where a lot of people are out of a job. Ten dollars a window is ridiculous. I also believe fifty dollars for a 3000 square ft home is ridiculous. Fortunately the marketplace will determine how much it will cost to have my windows cleaned, or not. I would also be willing to pay a little more to someone I trust who is bonded-but not ten dollars a window.

As of today the national average for a double hung window is a little over $11.50.

That’s an average, which means approximately 50% window cleaners are charging MORE than that.

I am certainly glad you decided what would be an acceptable amount of money for me to make for my family. Thanks.

To fb user.

People out of jobs should not be hiring window cleaners in the first place and market does not determine what you’re going to pay to have your windows cleaned, you do. Window cleaning company presents you with a quote and it’s on you to decide if that quote is satisfactory or if you want to hire a bucket bob that works for beer money.
