I’m looking for a place that we can save all our pdf estimates online. I’ve got a couple of girls that work from remote locations sometimes, and I really dont want 3 or so external drives out there. I’m needing to be able to save files, share files, and send them as attachements to customers.
You could also use your own server if you wanted. Just add an upload button to a password protected page and then go to another password protected page to view or download them. It wouldn’t be too hard to implement.
I will never allow my customers’ information to be stored online. I won’t store any of my business information online. I have no/little choice when making purchases because of no control over what WCR and others do with their information.
I will not allow any information under my control to be stored online…unless the people storing the information give me a 100% assurance and agree to be 100% financially responsible for any breach of confidentiality.
If I start getting emails or ads I can trace back to someone I’ve done business with (they sold or released my information) I won’t do business with them again, either.
I see your concern but what information are you storing? Names, phone numbers, addresses are all more than readily available as is…we reverse lookup people just by phone number all the time and have all the info we need – gender, names, address, ages…just from a phone number. You can look at that as a bad thing, or a good thing… it lets us be much more personal right off the bat and save time for both parties. Information becomes more available every single day, you can fight it or embrace it.
But on that note, I use dropbox for everything… never had an issue. Nothing important on there anyway, really just all our marketing stuff, but still.
Yeah, but that’s an easy argument to make against all storage devices too.
Storage devices are cheap. Yep. And easily stolen, hacked, cracked and accessed. If you have data stored in a computer anywhere (whether it’s a computer in your office or a computer in NAPA Valley) you run some risk of that data being accessed by an unwanted intruder. It’s just an undesirable fact of 21st century life.
So be smart, for sure.
That doesn’t mean don’t use any cloud storage though.
So is online storage. I do both. I like knowing all my info is stored online in case my external hard drive fries, or my house burns down. And that goes for the other physical location I keep another back up hard drive. And if the internet blows up, I like knowing my files are safe and sound on my external hard drives.
I had a scare a few years ago when my lap top and external hard drive were stolen at the same time. Luckily I had a partial back up of things, but I lost a whole lot. Actually thanks to WCR and some fellow window cleaners I didn’t have to re-create a lot of lost documents from total scratch.
Anyway, I’m super paranoid now of losing my company info, so I keep info online and on back up hard drives.
