Have I mentioned my undying love for dropbox? I love it.
Do they give you a quarter every time you say “dropbox” or something???
No, a dollar
Alright Curt you sold me. Where’s your affiliate code for when I sign up?
Just tell them Curt sent you… They’ll know where to send the check
WAIT!! I DO have an affiliate link: Dropbox.com
That’ll get me free storage space if you use it!
Wahoo!
Yeah Curt, you’ve got to take advantage of that! I’m up to 10.25 gigs of storage, all free, from those codes.
Wow, Taylon! I should really get more people going on dropbox. I could use every ounce of that space!
I work for a company that has this same idea. They believe paper is the only way. I always think if this place burns down, or someone comes in and robs them, they are out of business.
I have some in-laws that also feel this way. They kept all their tax information on their computer. Someone broke in and stole the computer last summer.
Also most companies are on the hook for that information, if a company breaks their own privacy policy you can sue them and get the damages you deserve. Also online companies are in my opinion a lot safer then keeping them on your personal computer, or on paper. You are much more likely to have a robbery then have someone steal your information from a secure website.
Dropbox.com Here’s my dropbox referral link:)
Agreed wholeheartely, Bee.
All I need is a tech saavy competitor (we’re out there, I’m one of them) hacking into my databases and pretty much sinking my ship.
I DO however back up my graphic work / fliers / etc ftp folder on one of my sites for safety. God forbid somthing happens to my laptop, I’ll still have weeks of work readily accessible.
As far as db backups, I print out EVERYTHING, and it gets stored in a box in a drawer under my bed. Come n Get it. My 2 attack trained cats, Skeezer and LOL will tear you apart lol.
Also, about once a month I drop everything pertaining to my business on a DVD and store it at Mom and Dad’s house.
Chris, if you hack into my dropbox, would you please let me know so that I can see about getting you a job as something other than a window cleaner? People who can break encryption of the type I listed above should be doing a lot more than trying to get into window cleaning competitor’s scanned docs in my opinion.
Like the CIA, or Home Land Security, or like a Black Ops dude. Put that kind of talent to full use my man!
Haha I’m not saying I, personally could do it, but I’m sure I could if I just googled around for a few days, and I’m positive others could already do it.
As much as a relief as that it… and also sounds kind of scary-- I really do believe that my stuff is safer in Dropbox’s cloud than on my own machine behind a router/firewall.
So… I still am madly in love with Dropbox
And once again – what is it that is so sensitive that’s on dropbox? Just save your tax documents elsewhere and besides that unless you’ve got a big poster of your SSN, birth date, and mother’s maiden name there’s little to worry about. Who cares if someone finds out that ‘Julia Mills lives at 1070 Chesnut and once paid $199 for window cleaning’ ?
I’m sending Julia a postcard
Customer info, CC#‘s, all your business info… not to mention if a competitor gets a hold of Julia Mills’ info they can contact Miss Mills and undercut you.
Credit card numbers? Why would you keep that on your computer at all? We just process them through a 3rd party, I assume most others do too. Dropbox is extremely secure so the number of people that can hack into it = very small…likelihood it’s your squeegee slingin’/nighttime cyber whiz that just so happens to live in the area is about as much as me winning today that $319 million dollar lottery that ended last week. Chances of them converting all of our clients = not impossible of course, but doubtful.
Of course you can also just keep client info off of there and skip that entire issue. Use it for everything else – pictures, bookmarks, marketing pieces, etc. I think you’re safe… give it a shot some time
Oh also: if you’re only using 1 computer then dropbox doesn’t make any sense to use. But if you have multiple computers, multiple people working, or want access from anywhere then it’s great.
Unless you have an iPhone.
Then their mobile app is BEAST!!!
I’d like to give a special thanks to Paul A. and Pavel S. who have increased my space by 1GB. Just think of all the credit card info I can now store!! Does anyone have a credit card number I can store?
I kid… I kid…
Seriously though, shared folders, public folders, sharable links, and online access to any dropbox folder through my phone, or even a login on another computer, perfect in-sync-ness of all my computers, windows, mac, laptop, desktop, and even selective sync are all reasons I begin to cry when I think of how dropbox has made my life richer
