Poles vs ladders

Why do I see so many people using ladders for windows on commercial routes that are >10 feet tall? I’ve been cleaning windows for 8 years and never understood why I see all these people using ladders when you can pole it? Seems so much more efficient, always worked for me.

(Not talking about residential)

Agreed. Poles are faster and easier. Many don’t have the confidence or experience to do it well.

As mentioned, probably not enough skill to use a pole so to achieve satisfactory results they use a ladder. That being said there is no way a pole or WFP can look as good as ‘nose to glass’, especially when toweling and razoring is necessary.

TOO EASY.

Probably dont know how to use a pole, its not that easy and takes time to master. Face to window is way easier to control the squeegie and prevent problems.

I can agree it takes time to master. But with a wagtail and the right mindset you can get things done with a one man crew efficiently and quickly. I’ve never brought ladders to commercial jobs and do almost all commercial, never had any complaints either. I agree with nose to glass that’s the best way but with the right tool and right guy, the pole can almost be as efficient as nose to glass. We have a guy around here (KC) area that uses ladders and doesn’t even carry poles half the time, he is a mysterious man in his ways haha. But I guess different stroked for different folks! We all have our preferred methods.

(Complaints as in no one’s ever requested a ladder)

Here’s another one this time on residential windows. Using different swivel squeegee / scrubber .On Pole and in hand.

I mostly do resi, but for the commercial I’ve done, I just used a pole.
Commercial clients aren’t as picky.

Too funny. If you are talking about glass that needs to be scraped - then that’s different. WFP does a bang up job otherwise.

Agreed

I feel attacked because I was just lugging a gorilla ladder around a job that would be so easy with a pole. I am just not confident enough and because I do like 95% residential I always have a hard time with “overcleaning” on commercial.

Just need to practice I guess.

Sweet setup, I like the idea of sqwerting the soap on the window, I use a small spray bottle, 6 oz. and its small enough to put in my belt but enough to hold soap for 2 big houses.

I would use the ladder on commercial above those awnings. Then I forced myself to learn how to fan with a pole and no longer bust the ladder out on that job. If there are cars in your way and don’t have the space you really don’t have much option and just need a step up…

I prefer the wagtail and the unger zero degree handle for pole work. Less fatigue after a full day of commercial.

If you see anyone using a ladder to do route work and I’m not talking using a ladder to hold a sign back , or using a ladder to get that one window that’s out of the way , or to get up on top of something. Im talking about using a ladder for everything
If they’re using it for everything , then they just haven’t taking the initiative to want to learn how it’s done. They haven’t been taught by a professional. You don’t have to be good to use a pole. Enough already with the egos. We all weren’t good wen we first started , but we understood this is the way it’s supposed to be done , so we learned and got better at it as we went a long What’s so hard about wetting a wondow in and pulling it straight down with a squeegee ???

That’s the best way and the fastest way to clean a store front Window. That wagtail thing is a waste of time on store fronts. Get yourself a 24” 26” 30” squeegee. Wet the windows in and pull them down to you get it to hand level. Then this is the hard part you need to learn how to fan we call it carve a window. That is what takes the most time to learn how to do.
I can teach my wife in a day how to use a pole to wet a the tops and pull them straight down.
Anyone using a ladder to get to the tops is just not taking the initiative to understand how it’s suppose to be done.

Waste of time in general? I was thinking of trying it out but haven’t pulled the trigger on getting the wagtail

Like fanning the top part with an extension pole or fanning the bottom part part of the window? I cant fan with an extension pole lol

The wagtail is good if you customize it man. Not a waste of time, you are probably the guy who swaps between squeegee and wand I assume? That’s a waste of time

It’s not a waste of time @Narcos. It’s good I run mine with the moerman sleeve. This guy on the forum saying it’s a waste of time Is just being a dick, there were no egos till he got on here
