PVA towels

After reading how Richard (Nuvudude) was now using the Aquadry (a PVA towel) I went out and got one. I used it today and I am very impressed. Not only was it inexpensive but it does a better job as a pick up towel than the synthetic chamois I’ve been using. It even comes w/ a case to keep it stored in. Thanks Richard!
By the way, you can purchase one in the auto section of Wal-mart or Target.

Wal-mart is evil. Larrys’ just saying.

C’mon, I gave him the Target option.

Tony, those towels do work well and they are quite durable. What does “PVA” mean? I’ve been calling the Aquadry a synthetic chammy all this time just 'cause it kinda looks like one but it’s synthetic.

I’ve tried a couple of other synthetic towels from Wal-Mart but didn’t like them. One of them was “The Absorber” and it was real rubbery and was real hard when it dried out. It just didn’t work well as a pick-up towel.

My local Wal-Mart either sells out of the Aquadry synthetic drying towel or doesn’t carry it any longer because I can never find them there. That’s why I bought 4 of them while on vacation back in July.

They hold up in the washing machine really well. As a matter of fact they need to be cleaned at least in the sink before doing a residential job so they won’t be full of dirt. The cleaner they are the more water they’ll pick up.

I’m sure there are other synth towels that work as well or maybe even better but the Aquadry is a really good one.

Oh yeah…I forgot to mention…as Larry says…Wal-Mart is EVIL!!!

My answers in bold.

PVA = Polyvinyl Alcohol

“Static-free and lint-free, PVA [Sponge] is hydrophilic…”

I just keep the Aquadry towel hanging in a loop on my tool belt overnight. If it dries out no big deal. Just add water and it gets wet again. LOL

Seriously, I don’t think it hurts the towel at all if you don’t put it back in the cannister for storage. Just give it a wet rinse and ring it out and it’s good to go.

The Absorber may be considered a PVA towel but it didn’t work well at all for a pick up towel. It had too much friction on the surface that was being wiped. Funny that the cheaper version works better.

Is Walmart Spreading Swine Flu?

Wal-Mart really is evil!!!:frowning:

Wow – those Super-duper-sized Wal-Mart really are a destination!

Funny. My mom has had the absorber on the shelf in her garage (she lives with us) and has told me to take it for years. Anyone who knows me, knows I don’t often wash my car. I just went and rinsed it out and will try it tomorrow.

I couldn’t afford Disney World so I had to settle for “Wally World”.

Go “organic” Use cow/deer hide chamios =)

I use the Absorber as a pick up towel. I like it a lot. It does get hard when it dries but a dunk in the bucket and a quick rinse takes care of that. I mainly use it to pick up drips of water on window sills and to wipe down frames. Scrim and the absorber is my combination drying tools. Im gonna try the aquadry towel though. I also heard the “water sprite” is a good pva towel as well has anyone tried that?

Same here except I use the Aquadry. I think it will prove to be an unbeatable combination. The big test for any PVA towel will be the winter.

Wal-Mart may be evil but the shopping is less expensive than most shops.

How short-sighted – it’s at a greater cost to one’s community, however. I’d rather keep my local economy healthy…

Walmart prices kind of like Bucket Bob prices.

Yes or No?

Bob doesn’t hurt on a global scale though, and he works local.

I was out at Wal-Mart this evening and noticed that the “Aquadry” towel that they now sell is different from the ones that I have been using. I bought one so I can compare it to the previous version of Aquadry synthetic towels that I have.

The ones they sell now are (like Tony said) PVA towels. The only ones they have at our local Wal-Mart are blue in color as opposed to the tan colored ones that they used to sell.

I prefer the tan colored ones. I think they were synthetic chamois as opposed to PVA towels. The PVA towels will work fine but they tend to grab the surface instead of gliding like the “Aquadry” synthetic chamois.

The tan colored ones are more like leather, thicker, and probably much more durable.

The tan ones are hard to find now so I may have to get used to the PVA version of Aquadry towels, unless I can find another synthetic (leatherlike) chamois that is comparable to the older version of “Aquadry” towel.

I’ll use the blue PVA one a bit and see how I get along with it.
