I’ve been looking into getting a Little Giant ladder. There are so many different kinds I don’t know which kind to get.
Basically I want to be able to get to a chandelier over a stairwell. I would have to set it up on the stairwell from what I can guess.
I like the Little Giant Xtreme 22’ with all the free stuff you can get, plus their standoff looks safer than the werner quick click I use for my extension ladder. The weight rating is appealing and all the free stuff you get with it makes the cost not seem so bad. It would also fit on top of a short vehicle or one with a hatchback, as I was looking into getting either a Nissan Cube or a Scion XB as an around the town beater, it seems like a perfect fit.
Anyone have ANY version of the Little Giant? I’d love to hear from you before I buy. My idea is to replace my 24’ and smaller extension and A-frame ladders with 1 of these for each vehicle.
The salesman was in my Costco today and I had to RUN out of the store before I bought one on the spot. If I hear good things tonight, I might go buy 2 of them with the standoffs and a scaffolding tomorrow.
I have the extreme 22’ I like it alot. It is very heavy though and at the end of the day I am worn out. It’s very stable, very solid feeling. When it’s fully extended, it’s hard to take down when you are by yourself. I lost it once and it came crashing down. Luckily no injury or damage. I had the ladder stabilizer on it and it was very top heavy. You have to unlatch the side latches to lower it. When fully extended, I am too short to reach them. If you leave it on the next hole down, its very easy to use and one man operable. I don’t fully extend it unless I have my help with me. I like that it fits in just about any vehicle.
It’s also very easy to use inside a house. You don’t have to drag a long extension through the door and down the hall for upper interior windows. It’s easy to bring it in and fold it up to the window. The feet on it are very sticky. By that I mean the don’t slip and slide on tile or hard wood floors. I won’t say it’s better than an extension ladder but it is definitely and nice addition to a collection of ladders.
I agree with everything Phil said, and keep your extension ladder. I also kept my two step and my 4’ A-frame. It’s a great ladder and most of the ad ons are good, but I don’t like the standoff and you will want to do something with it’s bumpers. I think that you have to use LG’s standoff.
I have a 13 and 3- 17 ft Little giants. If you need the 22 for specific jobs it is a great tool, but to heavy to replace your nice light 24 ft extension. We use them all day for gutter cleaning. We have a 40 lb 17 ft and 2- 32 lb 17 ft. We have semi-retired the 40 pounder. The 8 lbs difference is very noticable. I throw the 32 pounder around like they are nothing compared to the 40 pounder that I used for 3 years.
Great ladders. Very versitile. A must have for many situations. Ask Larry L from Ca. He has a bunch of them.
6-1/2 lbs difference, think carefully about what Randy said. Go online and look at their charts for height and extension comparison. I ride with The Over The Hill Gang like Phil and it’s good to hear one of the young studs bring up the weight. For my use I would have gone with the 17’.
You’ll learn more about hindsight when you get a few more years behind you.
It’s all relative and you brought up a very good point. A few ounces of weight at the end of a pole or even in you hand can wear on you at the end of the day, as has been discussed here and you will feel it later. Ibuprofen gets me through the day, I hope I can save someone the problem.
If you thought I was talking down to you, I apologize.
I use the type 1 alta 16’ all the time, I use the 20’ extension ladder anytime I can’t reach with the little giant in A frame form. But the ability to use the little giant on stairs or even a hill is awesome!
I have both the 22 and the 17. I bought the 22 about 14 years ago when you could only get them at home shows. In 14 years it has never let me down, works as good as the day I bought it and it’s built like a tank. It’s the last ladder you’ll need for most residential jobs. The downside is that yes it is heavy. But that’s the price you pay for quality ladders. I bought the 17 about 3 years ago when they went on sale at Costco for $129.00. (Good ol’ Larry Laczko posted up about the sale price and I jumped on it). Since I’m approaching old geezer status I use the 17 almost exclusively now for residential. I let the young punks…err kids use the 22. The 17 has the same build quality but its much lighter. You can’t go wrong with a little giant ladder.
