Did a quick search and a lot of older threads on this topic, figured things have changed in the last couple years and just wanted to start a chat on the topic.
Whats your favorite channel and rubber and why? Have you found any rubbers that seem to keep there edge longer than others? Prefer a rubber with 4 edges?
I see black diamond is a low cost option, anyone have experience with it?
Ettore? Unger? Sorbo? Whats best when considering cost and durability?
Do you use a different rubber in colder temps than you do in humid hot temps?
Cheers!
EDIT:
Wow! WCRA read my mind! Right after I posted I saw the link at the top “It’s Hard Rubber Time” haha answered just about all my questions!
“Hard rubber is best for warm temperatures; soft is best for cold weather. Most of your favorite brands make a HARD rubber.”
No need for a war mate. Everyone has their own opinion developed from their own experience and im interested to hear it
From what I gather sorbo and ettore are medium and most other brands are hard rubber. Anyone know a brand thats soft rubber for working in just above freezing?
You must be new here. No one seems to be able to discuss a product recommendation without it turning in to a war. Well, I shouldn’t say “no one” but “almost no one” here. And don’t dare try this topic on Facebook. You’ll get Troll stomped.
I prefer unger rubber in my liquidator channel in my wagtail slimline flipper with a modified pulex microtiger scrubber mounted on top with zip-ties. If that doesn’t offend somebody, I give up!
I mostly use Ettore rubbers, they work great. I’m in Coastal San Diego and I use them all year round, although this year I plan to try out some hard rubber. I used to buy 18" unger blades from home depot when in a pinch because they’re cheap ( $2.50 ish each) and they come in singles. I find they work pretty good as long as you don’t use the ettore clips with them. They work best with the handles that have teeth to hold the rubber in place.
I’d also like to know at about what temp everyone is switching to hard.
I like the black diamond soft rubber. Good glide. Doesn’t nick too easily but the ends burn out fast if you’re a fanner. I’ve been using it all winter down to 15* F. Usually I go through 1 blade, both sides on a typical int/ext resi.
I also have great success with Pulex rubber. Seems to wear well but it doesn’t like cold temps.
@leavinginc -Too cold? Where are you located? It’s 68 F where I’m at right now. It’s not what I would consider hot weather but definitely too hot to work with a jacket.
Anyways…my black diamond hard rubbers just came in. They work nicely. Considering what they cost I’m seriously considering switching from ettore.
So its always hot here and I don’t really like hard rubbers I mainly use sorbo and ettore none of those are hard rubbers , I swicthed to baron for a while and those are harder than the sorbos and I was not a fan
Started with ettore…For sorbo straight pulls I love the silicon…have tried many others unger, pulex (the batch I used was not anywhere near ettore quality in my opinion) wagtail (so far I like it in my liquidators) and just used the black diamond hard & i was def happy with how it performed. All the posts about it and the Liquidator i would agree with I find ettore is a little harder to slide into my wagtails & liquidators though cause it seems just a bit thicker (which it is very high quality) but it could be me…oh & my liquidator moerman rubber seemed to burn out very quickly on the ends (only used this winter)
