Streaks

Lol if you’re not having problems I wouldn’t worry about it. My issues are only under specific conditions.

I might keep ecover as my residential soap.

Man. I really think you guys may be over analyzing this whole streak thing. It’s possible you are in fact using too much soap or gg4 I suppose.

But I don’t think ecover is the problem. Lots of us here use it with no issues. Dawn is old school. Everyone who has cleaned windows for more than 5 years has used dawn at some point. I used to use dawn exclusively works fine too, just dried out your hands.

I can wash windows with Walmart soap and get the glass to turn out.

If you like dawn use dawn. But just keep in mind when streaks are the issue 90% of the time speed and technique is the issue. Not the soap.

My thoughts at least.

I agree … I didn’t know dawn dries your hands out though. I always thought it was the ammonia . I stopped using ammonia once I started my own business .
Once I switched to Sorbo rubbers, even though I like Ettore, an still use Ettore on my smaller squeegees . I have not had the problems I had with Ettore every Sorbo rubber I use works fine .
I’m shocked that people on here don’t like Sorbo rubbers !

I agree with Brandon ThruGlass. Most of the time it’s technique or rubber.

I should add a disclaimer to this thread: Under specific conditions, with good rubber and good technique, you might get smears. When that happens, it’s looking like it might be ecover. I’m mainly doing my research for posterity. If you’re not having any issues, ecover is awesome. Dawn will dry out your hands like crazy.

Thanks for the tip…Never tried that stuff, but I will!

Oh I won’t I have been using ecover for a while it works great. I had to stop using gg4 though because I was getting some of the issues mentioned just streaks on the side from water left in seals were milky. I think my water was not as hard as it needs to be for gg4. So I switched to ebc. And everything is butter. No problems at all.

So you’re either a skater, a brawler, or really clumsy…

I’ll bet really clumsy… he sounds a little soft…

There will be a lot of people using Sorbo in the future! I have heard good things about Sorbo

lol yes clumsy . Except when on the job:cool:

I had my share of fights back in the days kids will be kids , an that was the cause of my first dislocation. Dam thing use to pop out in my sleep I think that happened twice. I did get the surgery, an its been good since . All the rest of the injuries were sports related. The ankle was the sickest I was playing baseball sliding into home plate my cleat got caught up , an snap not a good sound. When they picked me up, an I saw my ankle swing back an forth wow! not good

STREAKS

If it’s a new rubber then I might suspect the channel is out of whack. Have you dropped it recently?Sometimes it can look true but isn’t.

Has your style of fanning or pulling changed recently that would affect the angle? (Hand too close or too far from the glass)
Have you tried less pressure?

After 25 years doing this, I still need to occasionally remind myself to put more pressure on the mop and less pressure on the squeegee. But I digress…

SOAP

The BEST SOAP I’ve used by far is a product called “SQUEEGEE”. $10.00 per quart.

SPONGE

I couldn’t imagine working without a NATURAL SEA SPONGE!

I use it to wipe my blade rubber before or after each window pane.

Also for wiping sills, tracks, ledges, (Window frames occasionally), and for those smallest of cut-ups.

I carry my sponge in a leather tape measure holder, (they come in nylon too), on the front of my belt left of center.

Try to avoid getting much soap in it and rinse occasionally.

Never get bleach on it! If you do it will dissolve right before your eyes!

I don’t wipe my blade…guess I should start doing that, eh?

I tried dawn only and a dawn/gg4 mix today, same technique, same “practice window” at my place…no streaks…at all…NONE, NOTHING. I gotta believe it’s the Ecover.

Frankkaras, good info.

I just don’t get the wiping the blade thing. If my squeegee has a bunch of soap on it, I’ll use my finger to wipe it when I’m outside, or wipe it on my mop if I’m working around pet fur. But most of the time, I just don’t need to.

I’m also not sold on the sea sponge. I wish someone would make a video on how they use theirs because I don’t get it. I do carry a microfiber towel on my hip clip that I use to wipe up sills or tracks as needed. It holds a lot of water and when it’s soaked, I can wring it out and it’s good to go again. Except this morning when it was frozen solid.

I do like the ingenuity of using a tape holder. That’s cool.

Yeah, I’m leaning that way too. It makes me sad.

Oops! Make that $10.00 per Gallon for the “Squeegee” soap.
