So last year I found that on hot days during the summer the guys would wear tank tops on the job because they were sick of getting farmers tans while working. I told them not to do it because it looks unprofessional, but I have no way of knowing because I am not on site.
I found this company (http://www.tanthrough.com/) who claims to have tan through shirts so your body will tan more evenly when in the sun. It also says the material dries easily and wicks away moisture.
I am going to buy a couple of these and test them out. If it works I will get them to wear these instead. They make polos and tshirts and could look nice with a company logo on them. They are expensive but could be worth it.
This year I started wearing long sleeve sun protection clothing. The shirts that I bought block out 98% of the UVA & UVB rays. My father had skin cancer and because of that I am taking sun protection very seriously now.
The shirts are lightweight and wick away moisture. They are designed to keep you cool during those hot days
Me and my crew use under armor moisture wicking type of tee’s under our uniforms ( mandatory)
While we use short sleeves will be trying long sleeves this year.
Gets blazing hot n humid here in tejas
Skin cancer sucks!!!
You are much more considerate of your staff than most employers that I have met, but since the shirts are expensive I would let them have the option of buying them at cost. Tan thru shirts aren’t really a business necessity IMO.
Chad, I feel the same way. I used to think that I would die in a long sleeve shirt in the summer in Texas, but during the summer if your in the direct sun all day you burn to a crisp. So a few years ago I tried long sleeves to stay covered and I was shocked at how much I liked it. I did not really feel hotter at all because it does not matter short or long sleeve it’s hot! SO you’re not going to get away from that. The biggest difference is that at the end of the day you have more energy because you keep the sun off of you. I was surprised at what a difference it made.
That said I am always looking for a good shirt that has great breathable property to stay at least a few degrees cooler in the direct sun. What are the shirts you use if you don’t mind me asking. I definitely want to get something good for this summer.
I heard about the shirts from my dermatologist. They are called Tropical Weight Long sleeve Polo shirts. I ordered them from Coolibar.com
We really have not had any crazy hot days yet, but I really like the feel of them.
Chad thanks for this info on Coolibar. I had had several cancer spots removed from my face and arms. I also like the hats. There is a chlorine resistant bucket hat that would be great for window cleaning and pressure washing with SH… great site. I wear regular long sleve t shirts quite a bit but they do get too warm sometimes. These are just what I need. I was kinda thinking the fishing shirts would be nice looking with and embroidered logo on the, for when I was to look neater, like doing estimates and such. Thanks again.
I love how people say the sun gives you skin cancer. The sun is your main source of vitamin D. Vitamin is proven to prevent up to 25 different types of cancer. Including skin cancer
So are you saying the sun does not give you skin cancer? All the drs are wrong? Have you ever had it? When they cut large pieces of skin from your face and arms, you might start taking more precautions.
Whats the material like? Does it snag easy? Last year I was looking for a good cool shirt and bought a few to try out but the materials snagged to easy climbing in and out of bushes. It looked like trash after just 1 residential job.
