Those who have Chevy/GMC Vans (Astro, Safari, etc..)

x

My wife drives a Safari for work, she is a mobile x-ray tech. So in the back theres enough room for huge desk for a laptop, scanner, printer, and all the x-ray equipment. She beats the heck out of that thing and it still keeps going. It’s actually a pretty comfortable ride.

I wouldn’t want to work out of one though, I like a truck too much. Get a sprayed in bedliner to prevent rust, they’ll spray the under carriage too.

I’ve used Astro vans in the past and I like them. They have a truck frame instead of the car frame of other minivans. The only problem I had w/ mine was the transmission went out but it had 200,000 miles on it.

Snap! I left it running in the loading/unloading bay at LAX

I thought it was you, Karl!

We bought our astro cargo van after talking to a few mechanics who highly reccommended them. They apparently run forever. Ours was $700.00 , 1986 with 68,000 miles on it. The owner died years ago and it had just been sitting for a long time. It was pretty jacked up though. We’ve probably put about 4 grand into(including rebuilding the engine, repaint, tires, fuel pump, water pump, radiator) but that thing is a beast now. Im really happy with it, tons of space, fairly decent MPG and huge advertising space on it.

I do have a 2004 Ranger pick up and used it until I got my 02 E-250, is a good work van, PLENTY of space and it really beats having to load/unload everyday.

Mine needs some mechanical intervention right now, like a new cat and oxygen sensors, but I’m really happy with it.
Sprayed the interior with that rubberized spray coating (spray cans) and added a nice ladder rack, one shelf and a bulkhead partition to protect me from “flying” cargo.

I’ll post a few pics later.

I’ve got an ex Telus (phone company) Astro van, 98. Love it.
It’s got an Allright ladder rack that’s bombproof Van racks

The company had built metal shelving opposite the side door and when you open the barn doors. I have a 5 ft and a 3 ft step behind the seats. Poles are in pvc sleeves attached to the roof (inside)1 is an Ettore 24 ft and it’s not hitting my head as I drive.

Keep up with all the fluid changes and I put in a fuel pump. So far it’s a tank.

I recommend it.

I have a 2001 Astro and I love it. As mentioned it has a truck frame so I can tow lifts to the job if I need to, plenty of room for what I need and it keeps all my equipment safe and sound. I even have my RO/DI system mounted in mine. Over 200,000 and still going…

I have a 08 express 3500 12ft. I love every thing about her but the gas mileage. I drive it part time in the winter for a courier service, mileage reimbursement works the same.

I think I’m going to pick up a 2008 extended 3500 for the business next week. Is yours the 4.8L or the 6.0L. I think I’m going with the 4.8L for mpg. Still can tow 6000lbs.

BTW, Brennon, that 4.8 is solid. I wouldn’t hesitate.

Good to know.

Yup 4.8, but I have to change the bumper if I want to tow. Extremely solid van. Every time I see it cleaned out at the end of the season I think to myself " I could make it overnight in here"

I can’t imagine what the 6.0 gets or has cause this thing Is a HOGGGGG. I wanna say between 13-17mpg

Just got my first Astro. 99 Model. I will post some pics with the new wrap and rims on it.

We got a 99 Astro last year July. Works great. Went with that since a neighbor bought theirs new in 99 and runs great still. Lots of room, able to secure gear. Big cleaning job, all crew plus tools.

I use to use one for Auto Detailing for years, they are perfect size, everything fits snug like a bug in a rug.
