Tips

According to this anyone who does Manuel labor should be tipped.

I find tips come in waves, none for a while then a bunch

I notice that the people that have money don’t tip as frequently as the average joe. I think they appreciate hard work a little more because they do it too. Not that rich people don’t work hard, they just do in a different way

I got a dollar today… Whoo hoo… I agree with Tim. My best tips have been from average Joe’s too. Wealthy people don’t tip and they try to negotiate price more often too.

I get quite a bit of tips and I let them know it’s very much appreciated. I had a guy recently give me a 12 pack of Guinness as a tip… I love my customers.

I agree that wealthy people do not tip as often as the average joe, but I disagree with your explanation as to why… I believe it has more to do with wealthy people and the average joe having 2 different views on money, and having different spending habits.

BC,
So true about tips coming in waves, its crazy!

Money is kind of like a gym, if you walk into a gym, the people that need it the least (fit people) are there all the time, and the people that need it the most (out of shape people) are never there.

People with less money (who should be saving it) tend to spend it the most, and wealthy people (who should be spending some) tend to spend it less often.

I don’t have many “Average Joe” customers < 5%. A good majority of my customers tip really well, even had a new customer ask me last fall if I accepted tips LOL, and I have one customer that will tip me and all of my guys!

People that you think may be rich have big assets like property and investments. They may have millions of dollars in assets but that doesnt mean they have millions in cash. They could easily be bankrupt in a short time if one investment fails.

People with “less money” have less in assets but have a cash mentality which may be the reason why they might be a little more generous.

Haha, that dollar post made me think of that State Farm commercial with Jerry Van Dyke dangling the dollar in front of that chick…

“Gotta be a lil quicker than that…”

$100 tip today on a $450 job

made my friday feel a little better. had to share

Nice, Brain that’s a Great way to top off the week…

All my tips have come from people who are or were in some type of sales position

Hello, we find that on the residential side we get tips frequently and they vary from 10 to 20% of job. On commercial side it’s typically at the end of the year and it’s about 3% of what the job is for the year but it is only from the storefront owner that this happens. From the corporate accounts its a thank you and a gift card. We are happy to receive what ever comes our way.

When I worked for someone else I took tips, now as an owner I usually decline unless I did something above what the estimate was for and I educate the customer that you should never tip the owner of ANY business since if they are good at what they do their profit was already built into the price of the job and you should expect top notch service without tipping. I know some of you will disagree with me, but tipping should not be needed if I am already making $50-80/hour as the owner of a business and the customers thank you will be re-booking down the road. I feel better about it that way and that little extra money won’t make or break me regardless.

I’ll never turn down a tip. Ever.

Thanks for messing it up for the rest of us.

$100 tip on a $475 invoice, the other day. She tips $100 no matter what the invoice is. It could be $100, and she’d pay $200. She does this every quarter. Why would you “educate” your customer not to tip you? Ridiculous.

Tips are a sign of appreciation. Tips I recieve are usually written in the check with homeowner saying " great job I threw in a little extra"

should I say " oh no! now you have to void the check I can’t take a tip"

btw if your averaging $50-80 per hour as owner operator you may want to work on that

Maybe accepting tips would push him over that $100 mark :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

You are the owner of the business; you should be doing that good job with or without tips so why should they tip you? Hell tipping in general has turned into a joke; everyone has their hand out these days and expects to be tipped. We had a lunch outing at my 9-5 job last week with 10 of us and the tip is an automatic 18% because of the party size and the service was terrible…….a tip should never be automatic in any situation and that crap waitress just made $50 servicing one table. The comment “thanks for screwing it up for the rest of us”, well actually I am educating my customers why I don’t feel comfortable accepting their tips, not yours. Now if I tossed up a video and a blog post about why you shouldn’t tip a window cleaner that would than affect you as I have had multiple customers say they Googled if they should tip and couldn’t find anything online so they asked me……I am not that mean to screw it up for the rest of you.

And for the money, I am perfectly fine making what I do, I clean windows for beer/toy money very part-time by myself and don’t feel the need to squeeze every penny out of my customers. I actually have discounted jobs that I overbid since I felt it was the right thing to do and has already paid off since I am now getting very good referrals due to my honesty. I always go into every job thinking this could be my boss’s brother/sister/mother/father and the last thing I want to do is mess up my 9-5 job, for the majority of you that do this as your primary source of income I don’t fault you for wanting to maximize profits, it is just not something important to me right now as I am looking to build some good relationships, work on my tan, and get some exercise!
