Using Bucket on a Belt on a Ladder Is It Safe!?

Today was on a ladder doing a builders clean had to get close a personal with the glass.

As there was paint, cement residue on the glass.

What was used was a ladder with a stand off on it this one has a tray so you can put your tools in it.

But it is still bit awkward to get at the tools as they tend to sit on top of each other.

Know could wear a BOAB (Bucket on a Belt).

However believe this is not the safest way to use your scrubber squeegee or other tools while on a ladder. IMO

While back someone mentioned if there is a way to have a tote that can be attached.

Using a clip on or an insertion into the ladder it self.

Having this on the ladder will allow ease of selecting what tool you need.

You could also wear a safety belt to hook on to the ladder rung.

This would allow you to use both hands without worrying about over balancing.

As a rule, try not to use a ladder but some times that how it goes.

Any thoughts on this or do you already have a safe way of selecting your tools, while on a ladder.

Yes know could use a WFP but it does not get paint and cement etc off.

This is not a option.

Herman,

Really have no problem using a boab on a ladder whatsoever, works just fine. Not quite sure where the problem is?

We use them all day, every day, any season… no issues.

(although I do sometimes slide the channel into the side rung hole of my sections.)

It may be ok doing a normal glass cleaning.

How would you go if the glass had staining, concrete, cement residue, paint, masking tape, etc?

Hey Herman, what up?
Been busy converting my scrubbers but have enjoyed your cart/trolly posts.
I see your point about needing Oil Fow, Cement Off, different scrapers or what, up on a ladder.
I haven’t had the problem yet myself but your standoff with a tray looks the best so far to me.
What have you got in mind?
Dale

A tool tray would be ok and covenient. The only problem i see is it being a pain when u move the ladder. As for the cement and etc., my belt is ready with anything i might need… I really like the safety hook idea tho.

Dale,

That stand off & tray you can buy in the states.

Early in the piece made a holder that held a cordless drill while up on the ladder.

This was on the ladder it self and made it easier to get at.

As had to take screws out of screens suppose they didn’t want the screen to come off in the wind.

When it come to those sort of things it can be a problem to work safely on the ladder.

Heman, I had a job several years back, which needed a cordless drill to remove storms. I had to wear two belts, my standard w/c belt then a belt with a cordless drill holster and a bag to hold the hardware once removed. I was leaning to the right side at the end of the day from the extra weight, but it did work. I have seen a ladder holster that attaches to the top of a ladder and it will hold a few hand tools. They are made of leather. Don’t know if they are still made commercial or not?

Not sure what the issue would be? I have more than just my boab on my belt… henry holster with my scraper, etc

The only issue I have with my BOAB is if it slides to the front on my belt, it would catch on the ladder rung and hold me back from climbing. I got into a habit of adjusting it every couple minutes, so I don’t really have this issue anymore.

Hanging my scrim on the front of my belt with Dave’s Bullring or a carabiner works well for me on the ground, on a ladder, not so much.
As I climb back down to pick it up I mutter to myself “Dumb***!”.

i make sure my pulex BOAB is fixed to ride as high as possible on the belt and it cannot move along the belt (with a cable tie fixing). Safety (and lightness of the belt gear) on the ladder takes priority

[SIZE=3]The reason why ask is that when you are on a ladder it seems like if you want to grab your squeegee or scrubber etc.

That you have your tools a waist height which may be OK at ground level.

However once on a ladder, the tools would be better accessed at chest level no reaching down.

I’m pretty sure boabs were actually designed for working up ladders.

I think this may be a case of not needing to reinvent the wheel. The BOAB is perfect for use on a ladder.

Ok, let’s go with BOABs were designed for and are perfect for ladder work. What do you do when you need other tools, chemicals, extra towels, ect when you are up on a ladder? When you have to do more then scrubby, blade, scrubby, squeegee, detail?

This should take care of all your needs. I’m sure carpenters wear these while on ladders.

Hi, Buddyo.
That looks like my (nail bags) or carpenters rig. It also weighs 10 pounds with tools before I put nails in it. One reason I don’t do alot of carpentry anymore. You can only carry so much on your person.
Anybody? What do you do when you have to take a bunch of stuff up a ladder?

[SIZE=3]This is not about reinventing the wheel.

It is about where and how to put your tools so to be able to work safer on a ladder.

Welp, on my belt I can carry the boab, a bottle holder w wool underneath, a double holed leather blade holder, that can hold a blade and another tool, never needed it so I stuff a wet huck, or one I use to wipe chems…my 3 pocket Unger pouch can hold a boatload of hucks, white scrubby, magic eraser, screwdriver or other tools, smaller safety blades, small bottles of dry chems…my phone, black/silver perm marker…paint can opener for screens …pretty much all I need to do just about anything sans restoration… On a ladder, not a problem…just am careful when I grab stuff and put it back.
